It may seem irresponsible to joke about such things but in the greater spectrum of the population there’s a majority of people afraid to share things that they believe in or are concerned about. If I were to run my posts by a consensus of socially responsible advisors, a lot of people would say “no no don’t share that you’ll be watched you’ll be targeted or blacklisted or killed!” I’m not kidding either, but because they often don’t really know what the consequence is, they are vague to articulate it. Some people think everything is a virus and only click the most mainstream of links...

Others may not be paranoid to that extreme, yet still fear social alienation, and/or a loss of business opportunities. So yet still they duck all controversy. Some folks are primarily concerned with their inner chi for the day, their vibe so to speak. It’s understandable, don’t dance with the devil if it’s toxic to your illusionist dependency (you could argue that we all have that a bit).

Some might portray activism as a lost cause. Particularly the whistleblowing aspect of activism is often shrugged off as the most lost of causes, because one might imagine the powers that be don’t take kindly to it. Which makes it into a creepy uncharted territory, like a cavern that no one has seen the other side of. No one can even agree on what the true powers that be are... Anything that challenges them... while seemingly easy for any coward to do online, nevertheless the irony is that many are still afraid to actually do it. So there has to be more to it than meets the eye IMO. It’s a mystery.

Most ppl are relatively innocent bystanders, whom will go on living in an individualist mindset, thinking we never had a chance to change the powers that be. I do legitimately fear that they could be right. But I’m Intrigued by the occasional movement for change, even if it merely involves online support. Joking about it may seem hypocritical, but it does allow a segway into having a conversation about contentious things, without being directly confrontational. That’s my view on it.

Sometimes it’s important for people to know your actual view. These are skeptical times. I know some that need the additional assurance of facial expressions to decide if they believe someone... which is why I think vloging is often perceived as more genuine, many prefer to see who and what everything “looks like” at a given moment. To me that sort of just shows a decline in sophisticated reading and writing skills.... but alas, I kind of do want to start vloging anyway. If it’s a modern standard expectation, then it’s probably more effective to go with it than against.

Sometimes I hesitate to write something controversial, or even just plain, verifiable facts, just because I know the cognitive dissonance of some players will cause a bigger argument than I care to participate in. For instance liberals who worship Obama or Clinton get upset when you mention the not-so-nice things they did while were in office. They call bullshit, you provide factual links, and they either defend the politician's indefensible actions, deny the facts, or claim it's irrelevant. It's difficult for me to stay calm with people that are basically irrational, hence, not bothering to post in the first place.

I have covid madness. Too much time sitting around thinking. Pondering things that bother me and I can’t seem to reconcile. Today, I am obsessed with racism. If you actually read this lengthy post, please comment.

I have friends of every race, culture and background. Guess what. I like them all. And I don’t understand why anyone wouldn’t also like them. I’ve had students of all sorts of backgrounds and guess what, I really like them too. We’re not the same. Some of their music I don’t really like that much. Some of it I love. But I can say the same of opera, musicals, rock, hip hop, metal, soul, country, pop, gagaku, and many others. There’s sitar music that is absolutely fab.

When I see a black person, I don’t see ugly. When I see a chinese person, I don’t see ugly. Korean, Mexican, Italian, Indian, African and on and on. I don’t see ugly. I don’t have a fear of black, brown, yellow, green blue or white. That stuff doesn’t normally occur to me. In fact, quite the opposite. I see beauty in every race and religion, culture and origin. And I like it.

But today, I ask, what is racism.  What is the difference in a causal conversational reference to race or culture and outright, overt racism? Where does the line cross? Where does being politically correct fail and racism begin?

I totally get the American version of racism, slavery and cannot even understand that thought process, not even a little. I will never understand the point of it, except my recent ramblings on fear based lives…

I know why there were slaves. I know that the systemic racism that exists today is a plague, as bad, maybe worse than covid because it happens every day of ever year for decades, for centuries.  It’s nauseating to me, because I now my non white friends have to deal with this every day. Every damn day. I have never tolerated it. And I will fight. I am adamant if I see that shit going on, someone will be on the ground, begging me not to end them. I suppose I am more violent about this than I should be but I picture it as me, or my daughter or son, mother, father, spouse… If someone did that, they would have to stop and suffer. Yeah, I might get arrested but at least I didn’t tolerate it. I can say without hesitation, if I have been there with George Floyd, I would have stopped that fucking bastard Chauvin with force if necessary. I’ve always been that way.

But today I have a dilemma.

I don’t use the N word. I find it used by the soulless and intended to hurt. But when I hear the word sagging, spelled backwards being said by someone, it bothers me immensely. I wish they wouldn’t but it still is a contemporary cultural slang that has taken hold. But now, what if I hear a white person say it, or an Asian or Mexican or Indian or or or…

How am I supposed to react?

If I say it, am I encouraging racism?

Am I being racist?

Why is it ok for my black bud to say it?

Why is it ok for my back buds to say to me, JJ my nnnnn? BTW, I do not take offense because I look at it the way it was intended, as a term of endearment, and fact is, I appreciate them being comfortable enough around me to say it. I actually love them for it and appreciate that they would. I know, weird but true. And I know I could say it back, but I am hesitant. Because of culture, racism, perception.

So there’s my dilemma. Where does it become racist? Defined, as the systematic and systemic oppression, segregation, categorization and so on. But let me ask this. What about when an Asian says something like that to a Mexican or Indian? Or the opposite? Is that also racist? And what if an Asian says that to a white, or a black says that to a white? I understand that the black experience in American with this shit is so profound and is still so incredibly bad today that there is a predetermined urge to think of racism as white against black. But does it also exist with any other minority? How about male/female or even older/younger?

And finally, this comes to me today because of an experience. Take this example and let me know.

A white person, an absolutely non racist BLM supporting white person gets cautioned about saying “n***a” in the workplace. Not in the context of black person but in referencing a song on the playlist that goes “Bag a Six Figga  N***a”.   A customer hears it and complains. In conversation with other employees about the complaint, mentions the phrase “Bag a Six Figga  N***a” and mentions that they need to fix the playlist because a customer complained.

In another similar case, someone has an artifact of something bad that happened and emblazons BLM on it. Later, someone complains. Who is right? Where does the line exist. BTW, the person complaining in both cases was black.

How do I reconcile this, right wrong what? It’s confusing.

Like I mentioned, I would like your comments on this. I’m serious. It’s bothering me a lot.

No Trump Apologist Is a Leftist.

In America, every individual has a First Amendment right to identify themselves however they want. By the same token, every other individual has a First Amendment right to refuse to accept another individual’s self-designation. Donald Trump has a First Amendment right to insist that he’s not a racist. Every other American has a First Amendment right to call bullshit.

The point of being a leftist - or a socialist, or a progressive - is to increase the amount of peace, justice, and human freedom in the world. The point of being a leftist is to improve the lives of other people. A person who makes political choices only on the basis of their own perceived self-interest is not a leftist. Such people have a First Amendment right to call themselves leftists if they want. Everybody else has a First Amendment right to call bullshit.

There are two fatal flaws with the electoral/political “strategy” of the U.S. Green Party from a leftist point of view. One fatal flaw is that for many progressives and liberals, the U.S. Green Party seems to be an organization that exists primarily for the purpose of helping to elect Republican presidents. The second fatal flaw flows from the first. For advocates of the U.S. Green Party’s electoral/political “strategy,” this advocacy is now functioning a “gateway drug” to becoming apologists for Trump.

Everybody willing to acknowledge objective reality knows that there are effectively two candidates for President of the United States right now. One of these candidates endorses violent white supremacists on national TV. The other candidate does not. One of these candidates refuses to commit to accepting the results of a democratic election. The other candidate does not. One of these candidates attacks without evidence mail-in voting during a pandemic, when public health experts - including U.S. government employees whose salaries we are paying with our tax dollars to try to give us the best available information - are telling us that we’re supposed to be minimizing situations where we’re congregating indoors with people we don’t know. The other candidate does not.

To insist now that these two candidates are the same would be to minimize the importance of these three distinctions. Of course, it would also minimize the importance of a whole bunch of other distinctions: health care, labor rights, climate change, civil rights, abortion rights, ending the Yemen war, we could go on and on and on and on. But any purported “leftist” who will not accept those three distinctions as sufficient now will probably not accept ANY distinction as sufficient now. Any purported “leftist” who will not accept those three distinctions as sufficient now has probably adopted a cultish dogma that has put them beyond the reach of reason, logic, and evidence. Any purported “leftist” who will not accept those three distinctions as sufficient now is functioning as a denier: someone who is not really sure that climate change is real, not really sure that the Holocaust happened, not really sure that government-approved vaccines against measles are safe and effective, not really sure that human beings descended from other animals.

Which organization bears primary responsibility for creating such a group of people? The U.S. Green Party. By promoting an electoral/political “strategy” of helping to elect Republican presidents, this organization is creating a group of self-identified “leftists” who are now functioning as Trump apologists.

Most progressives take the view that this organization should be tolerated in progressive spaces because it is not that harmful. If Trump is decisively defeated by Biden and leaves office peacefully in January, then I agree with this view. If Trump is not defeated decisively and does not leave office peacefully in January, then there must be a reckoning for the U.S. Green Party.
