Lose Your Rent Money

Become Homeless... DUH!

The ad essentially points to DraftKings and FanDuel as liars.

“We will continue to explain to Californians to not be fooled by the deceptive campaign being waged by out of state corporations who wrote this measure to boost their corporate profits and take sovereign rights from Californian Indian tribes,” No on 27 spokesman Rob Stutzman said via press release.

and Then I Got an Email from my Brother Saying VOTE NO 26 & 27

On the November CA ballot are 2 propositions promoting huge expansions of Tribal Gambling throughout the state.  Prop 26 is sponsored by 3 of the largest and most profitable Native tribes to selfishly increase their riches with no sharing with non-gaming tribes, nor contribution to any other social good.  Alternately, Prop 27 was qualified for the ballot by 2 Eastern corporations that, despite contrary messages, have written the measure to assure that 90% of the projected hundreds of millions to be garnered in new profits will go to their out-of-state corporations.

The first Prop 27 ad I saw literally made me sick viewing a small Indian band that had willingly sold out themselves and their entire nation for a few dollars.  Fortunately, the wayward group either came to their senses or were fired by the carpetbagger promoters when they failed to gain the support of larger tribes.

TV ads for the measures -- predominately for Prop 27 -- have overtaken the airways with literal non-stop messaging.  To date, spending for the two gaming measures is approaching $400,000, the most ever spent for any Calif ballot proposition.  Neither measure will promote the general welfare, nor will enhance any public or social good.  Both measures share the same motivation -- insatiable, overwhelming Greed.  Please read on for more detail.

Proposition 26 & Proposition 27
Vote "NO" on Both

The 2 propositions appear to be related, but their differences are beyond substantial and both are exceedingly harmful.  Proposition 26 would result in "Vast Expansion of Gambling Methods within Indian Lands and will Extend to Calif Racetracks."  Proposition 27 would result in "Vast Expansion of Present Methods with the New Authorization of "Online" Gambling Beyond Indian Lands with No Limitations."  Progressives previously supported the establishment of Indian gaming -- in respect for Native sovereignty.  Neither of the current measures, however, have measurable Indian support.

Proposition 26

This measure, somewhat related but unlike Proposition 27, was initiated by a small group of leaders of the largest tribes.  Their motivation sprang from furthering their personal enrichment, not from either demand or need.  The authorized program of permitted gaming methods at Indigenous Casino sites is constitutionally limited.  Proposition 26 would remove the present standards and will permit unlimited gambling methods and selections at Casino sites expanding to Calif racetracks.  Methods would include wagering on sports events, like horse racing, sports teams, auto racing, boxing, wrestling, and a host of events broadcast into Casino platforms.

The institution of Indigenous Casinos has been a needed boon and supplement to mandated federal and state financial assistance that is perennially  insufficient.  The result of tribal-sponsored gaming has brought tremendous uplift in the political, economic, health, and social life of Indian tribes and peoples.  Casino profits are shared with non-casino tribes and these efforts, though lagging, are continuing and constantly improving.

There is not much to analyze about Proposition 26.  While Indian casinos are thriving and producing admirable widespread improvements, tribal leaders of some of the largest casinos initiated Proposition 26 with the goal of slyly piggy-backing on the hopeful success of Proposition 27, solely due to Greed, not need for new unlimited revenue.  VOTE "NO"

Proposition 27

Proposition 27 was put on the ballot by deceptive propaganda.  Signers were told by paid signature collectors that "this new measure will raise money to end homelessness in California."  Proposition 27 was not initiated, nor promoted by California Indian tribes, but by out-of-state corporations that sought to take advantage of Calif voters' universal desire to end homelessness and the compassion of state voters to lift up the plight of California's Native peoples from the violent repression of the past.

The Indian Gaming Regulatory Act of 1988 correctly acknowledged the sovereignty of Indigenous people and the right of tribes to operate gambling Casinos on tribal land.  This Act has successfully improved the quality of life for Indian tribes and produces millions in revenues that are shared among both casino and non-casino tribes, which bureaucratic federal and state government financial assistance could never replicate.

Proposition 27 would astronomically expand to unlimited types of gambling well beyond being confined to Casinos on Indian land to online phenomena available to everyone -- even minors -- with a cell phone or access to varieties of digital devices.  The measure blatantly lies in many ways:
  • that revenue from online gaming will uplift poorer non-casino Indian tribes.  Impartial analysis shows that at least 90% of revenue from the expansion will go into the pockets of the out-of-state carpetbaggers who wrote the measure specifically for their selfish enrichment;
  • that revenue from the measure will end homelessness.  Besides there being little revenue to allocate, voters need only to recall that the "selling point" years ago for approving the State Lottery was the promise that revenue from the Lottery "would forever end the problem of funding education throughout the state";
  • that minors will not be able to gamble online.  No procedures are indicated that will weed out anyone with a digital device from "online" access.
Additionally, because Blacks, people of color, and those of lower income are lured in larger numbers to games of chance with the hope of improving their financial status, Proposition 27 would instead aggravate economic inequality.  The availability of unlimited online gaming opportunities will provide increased attractions that will further worsen the already weak financial condition of marginalized people.

Practically all California Indian Council tribes oppose Proposition 27 as a boondoggle that will proliferate gambling throughout California life and institutions degrading lifestyles of minors and the elderly, by which these out-of-state corporations will realize uncountable wealth with practically nothing positive accruing to California, its residents, or its many intractable issues.
VOTE "NO."

It’s easy the government flooded the economy with money. Inflation is a government generated phenomenon. One way to pay off the national debt is by devaluing the currency through inflation. It’s a tax on you and me and the government gets away with it because few people understand it. The only way to counter inflation is by investing in risk assets (ie: Real Estate and stocks) but that doesn’t always work. It’s the old axiom too much money chasing too few goods. If you looked at the money supply and the velocity of money you would see the exponential growth. The reason we had little inflation in 2008 was because the money didn’t enter the economy - the banks didn’t loan it out not so this time

they say every thing is going to go up - but we get our gas from other countrys - Not the USSR - our food ( corn & weat is grown here, - This is a ploy from our government, california could drop there prices just by dropping that Tax ( $ !.00 ) increase and on top of that the government could also drop it even lower by dropping their tax on it also. We don't know why this war is going on and will never tell the exact reason why ( government never tells us the truth) No war never solves anything - but who am I nothing In there eyes.

SC Repied:
war seems to only benefit the very wealthy. Every time we have a depression or ressession there seems to be a war. What a rotten way to solve problems. California has become a nightmare place for poor people. We are discussing relocating to Nevada. We are thinking the Reno area. Reno is supposed to be very friendly to the LGBTQ+ community.

In Search of Balance ~
~ I wrote this exactly one year ago. My feelings exactly ~
. I am finding the people on FB are separated and ranting at each other, spiking, jabbing, screaming-angry over political issues. I know how easy and funny it is to simply ‘share’ a post, but here I would like to address a few things in my own words.
. What stuns me about the current state of the American state is a number of policies that have been put forth;
. #1) The idea of abolishing the EPA. How can that even be considered? In these times of polluted rivers, oil spills, dwindling fish populations, smog cities, bizarre weather patterns, with a bloom of radioactive water just off the west coast, this is NOT the time to shut down our senses. This angers me to no end.
. When these jackals have passed from the government, I fear the damage they have done in only a few short years will continue to be devastating to our land and culture. Log our national parks? I liken these actions as the same of raping an 11-year-old girl. She is changed for the rest of her existence.
. #2) I detest the inclusion in our government of incompetent inexperienced appointees, with a pre-existing personal agenda, whether religious, or hateful. Buying your way in, or being a best buddy is not an appropriate resume’.
. #3) I oppose and reject the current arrogance, as like the immature posturing of an 8th grade boy. I see the evident bad attitudes of not working together in compromise, to accomplish a better world for our grandchildren.
. #4) I further deplore the low level of empathetic care, the promulgation of hate in this land and the world. As a representative of our country, that attitude is disgusting.
. From evidence I see that Republicans continually vote Yes for these negative things. In what way are they serving the people of this land? How do they justify their actions? Do they not see that they are damaging the very Republic they cherish?
. How can they even consider deactivating a plan to keep people healthy? In what way is this beneficial?
. Making fun of these people is very easy… calling each other names...that is a cheap shot. That is not the issue. I honestly don’t expect things to drastically change, as evidence indicates the majority of humanity is rather dull. But for those of us who are aware, those on the cusp of change, it sure would be nice if we could all get in the kitchen and get something done.
. I vote we not wallow in the past, but work together to get out of this existential mud hole. Thought into action.
. Thank you for your time ~ Gordy

And so... Here's my little story about Pete Seeger.
By way of introduction, I confess that the Seeger family looms large in my collection of momentous moments.
I've had the incomparable joy of sitting with Mike and Peggy, swapping songs and laying out a sweet third harmony. A sparkling happy time. I also met Pete a number of times and can say without reservation that the man changed my life immeasurably.
I was just starting out as banjo boy of 12 when my parents loaded me up in the station wagon and we drove over to Berkeley for this concert in a big building. It was something about banjos.
Well, I had never been in such a gathering before...it was like seeing the mother ocean for the first time.
Here was this thin unpretentious man that walked out on a bare stage, dropped his coat on the floor, and stood there in a plaid shirt talking and singing. Somehow I was impressed that he didn't have an instrument stand or a table, he'd just lay his banjo on the floor when he'd switch to guitar. My body pulsed large and small as the whole room sang. I didn't know what I was doing or what was happening, but we were all singing in intricate harmonies , dynamics, and counterpoint. It was SO beautiful, my heart almost burst. I looked around enveloped in the color of joy...
He was just the friendliest fellow I had ever met. My folks encouraged me to speak with the promoters on the way out, and they gave me his address! So I scrawled him a little letter of "Thanks, and I really liked that one song you did." Pete wrote me back! and included the words of the song.
I can't articulate how powerful that was for me. I want to be a nice-guy banjo-guy when I grow up.
"As the twig is bent, so grows the tree."
The last thing he said to me years later was; "Gordy, keep on keepin' on."
I have.

Open Door ~
. Well, that wasn't difficult. I found out how to delete contact with some of those annoying FB people. I actually feel lighter.
. I anguished over it...as I want to be open with all. Who am I to judge?.. yet here they are EVERY SINGLE DAY saying something negative and argumentative. Pouring hate and bile into my life.
. Then at once I recalled years ago when I had literally no lock on my door. Yes all were welcome, I fed a lot of folks. ...and some came back to steal my tools, my generator, my bike, and my clothes. (My clothes, fer gawd sake!) So there are some I need not feed.
. Slow learner, eh?

I am of the age, the times when Ram Dass spoke directly to me. I was starry-eyed from Colusa and met him in L.A. when in college. This is to the point.

“When you go out into the woods, and you look at trees, you see all these different trees. And some of them are bent, and some of them are straight, and some of them are evergreens, and some of them are whatever. And you look at the tree and you allow it. You see why it is the way it is. You sort of understand that it didn’t get enough light, and so it turned that way. And you don’t get all emotional about it. You just allow it. You appreciate the tree. The minute you get near humans, you lose all that. And you are constantly saying ‘You are too this, or I’m too this.’ That judgment mind comes in. And so I practice turning people into trees. Which means appreciating them just the way they are.”

MD Said: that’s called capitalism. The whole point of capitalism is to create demand has nothing to do with overpopulation. High rent and high prices are again caused by demand and inflation, and they have nothing to do with overpopulation. We have enough food to feed the world many times over, but it’s because of poverty and corruption in political governments and lack of education not overpopulation.

Companies create demand by limiting their products thus increasing their prices for their products. Harley Davidson is famous for this. We do not have limited resources nor do we have overpopulation.

Climate change has nothing to do with overpopulation.

I Replied: A small number of People Polluting the Air is Not Significant. a Large Number of People Polluting the Air is a Problem... Biology/Thomas Malthus. and then SE Said: One thing that drives me crazy about the "we need more housing" people is the fact that they never, EVER address the issue of water. Santa Clara Valley is in a severe drought right now, yet we have around 2 million residents currently, and we will have thousands if not millions more residents when all of the neverending high-density apartments are finished and occupied. If the current 2 million residents are being asked to conserve water, where do they plan to get enough additional water for the million or so more people who will eventually move here? This is the point where someone usually comes along and says, "But apartment dwellers don't use nearly as much water as people who live in houses," and "The biggest use of water is a lawn. People living in apartments don't have lawns." Okay, fine. But we're talking THOUSANDS, maybe even MILLIONS of people in addition to the 2 million who are already here. The fact that they don't have a lawn doesn't change the fact that there will be so MANY people using a limited amount of water. Even 2 million additional people taking a daily shower will use a ton more water than whatever is currently being used! And not everyone is conscientious about trying to conserve water by taking shorter showers or turning off the faucet while they brush their teeth or whatever. Some people are wasteful by nature, and some are jerks who feel entitled to use as much water as they want. I knew a guy a few years ago who used to turn on his shower and let it run for TEN MINUTES before getting in. I have no idea why anyone would do such a thing, but in his case, I think he was trying to rile me up because he knew I cared about the water supply and the environment. I never said a word because I don't like confrontation and I don't like to argue, and I didn't want to give him the satisfaction of knowing that his blatant waste of water was upsetting me, so I never once said a word about it. But my point is, there are people like that who feel entitled to waste water. When you're talking about hundreds of thousands, or maybe even millions, of additional residents, it really doesn't matter if they live in a house with a lawn or whether they live in an apartment building. And sure, you can encourage people to take shorter showers or to shut off the faucet while they brush their teeth, but there is no way to monitor millions of apartment dwellers to make sure they actually ARE doing those things. And even if each and every one of them DOES take extra steps to try and conserve water, the sheer number of additional people WILL put a drain on the already-stressed water supply. Why don't the "we need more housing" people ever talk about this?
We DON'T need more housing. We need fewer people. The only way we're ever going to be able to have a decent quality of life again is if we STOP making it so easy for more and more people to move here.

VK Replied: My dad is one of those "people need more housing" folks but I guess I sort of understand because that's how he earns a living. He got some land development deal in Cupertino where he might be earning some $200k commission from. In all honestly I'm kind of bad about letting the water run while brushing my teeth, mostly because I'm always rinsing my mouth out and don't brush that long. It's terrible and Pat actually is the one who reminds me to shut it off. As far as the shower, I usually have to let it run for a minute or two because it takes a while to heat up, but 10 minutes is kind of ridiculous.

SE Replied: The water in my kitchen takes a long time to run COLD, if you can believe it. I need it to get cold before I can run it through my Brita filter, so sometimes I have to let it run for a minute or 2 before it gets cold. I always feel terrible about that, though, because I know it's a waste of water.

MM Said: We need to invest in better technology in agriculture here in CA—ones that conserve water and use it in a more efficient manner. Look at the pie chart. Most of the water is consumed by agriculture.
And the water use is different for the regions here. Our area really doesn’t use as much water as other regions. But yes there is a drought but are we the only ones that should be encouraged to use less water? How about asking agriculture to invest in more efficient ways of utilizing their part of the pie chart? Government incentives for them to do so?
I drove down HWY 5 a few years ago and noticed that many of the orchards there were abandoned, the owners couldn’t afford their water supply—profit margins dwindled and they had to pack it in. This of course affected our economy as well.
We need better water management, better tech to conserve water in agriculture by making the irrigation process more efficient and less wasteful. Education and technology can help farmers manage their crops better too—cooperating with folks who own cattle to rotate fields and provide time for one section to be pasture and naturally fertilized with manure while others actively grow crops. The State and County Fairs need to provide free seminars paid for by our State government towards these aims.
Anyways, my two cents.
California Water Use Chart

California Water Use Chart - map

MM Said: And it’s a major hill to climb, considering most farmers are quite set in their ways—they don’t like being told what to do with their crops or farms. But they use most of the water and are not considered in this push to conserve water. They are overlooked. So it unfairly falls on the urban areas to take up the slack?! We don’t use as much water as they do!

SE SAID: But it pisses me off about the "we need more housing" crap. We wouldn't have a water shortage if there weren't so many people needing the limited amount of water that we have. This is not the time to encourage more people to move here.

VK SAID: Yeah, I agree. I was actually just saying that the bay area is one of the places I'd never move back to. We moved here because the cost of living was cheaper, but it's gone up a lot and I feel like at this point we could move to SoCal and pay around the same. This isn't my dream place to live, I'd love to be close to the beach and have consistent weather that isn't too cold during the winter. Maybe after we build up some equity in the house and have more income we can make it happen.

SE SAID:  Yeah, I feel so stuck here in San Jose, but I don't know how I'll ever get out. I'm from this area, and my whole family is here, and I've lived here most of my life, so it's 'home.' And of course, if I move away, first I'd have to save up enough to get myself set up in another city where I don't have any family nearby...but how can I ever save when it's almost impossible to find permanent employment anymore? Contract work means you end up going long stretches of time in between jobs, and that makes it impossible to save money. I get really depressed sometimes when I think about it because I don't really see any way out. It's like being on a merry-go-round or something.

VK SAID:  Yeah, I totally feel that. I'm fortunate that I could keep my current job and work out of the Irvine office if I wanted to, but I don't know if I'll still be at this job at that point in time. I'm hoping to eventually be 100% freelance, but we'll have to see. Pat said he could always do UberEats full time until he found something, he's been having better luck with that vs rideshare. I was just lamenting recently how we wished we could have moved away sooner, but like you said it's really hard if you don't have a job lined up. The only way we were able to move here is because we had somewhere we could stay and Pat was able to transfer his job while I was on unemployment. It was pretty rough for a while. Moving out of state would be even harder, especially if you're buying a house because like my current loan is restricted to CA only and you have to have 2 consecutive years in the same employment industry, or buying a house outright in another state would be dicey for us because we'd both need new jobs. If I was 100% freelance, I'd need at least 2 years worth of that income as well.

VK Said: The water at my dad's house takes FOR-EVER to heat up so it can easily be 10 minutes of letting the water run. I heard it's because he has the water heater turned turned way low and he thinks he might be saving money that way, but in reality he's wasting a lot of water that way and as a homeowner, you do pay more for water/garbage in a house, so it doesn't make sense.

CB Replied:  My MIL puts a pitcher under her faucet to catch the cold water while it’s heating up before she showers/hand washes dishes or whatever and then waters plants with it. You could suggest/try that if you need to let it run for a bit to heat up.

and then I Said: Let's Make Birth Control Free and Legal Worldwide... The Troubles of OVERPOPULATION are More than Just Too Many People Living in the Bay Area... It's Too Many People EVERYWHERE!
