The conformism of the 1950's was blown away when LSD became widely available. Owsley made the chemical and made it available at Acid Tests with Ken Kesey and the Grateful Dead. He also gave it to the Beatles for their Magical Mystery Tour. The spirit lives on in a yearly camping trip called The Rainbow Gathering. It's like Woodstock but the performers are not paid and I'm in the Band.

The Diggers of San Francisco were a street theatre company famous for their slogan "Today is the first day of the rest of your Life." They provided free food in Golden Gate park to needy Hippies during the Summer of Love. They also created a "Free Store" where all the merchandise was free. I suppose that they were skilled in getting donations. They also walked around Haight Street with a giant picture frame that passers by could step through in order to change their "Frame of Reference." The Diggers were part of the SF mime troupe, Bill Graham worked for them also as a benefit dance promoter/arranger to raise funds  by having local bands play and selling tickets. He later became the most successful rock music show promoter in the USA.

I went to the gathering with a specific goal in mind. I wanted to play my guitar and sing in public. Yes, mission accomplished. I was Living in Chico, California and working at the plastics factory. When there was a layoff, my wife suggested that I borrow the car and drive over to the gathering. My friend Mike Jensen wanted to go and so we checked the oil, brake fluid, transmission fluid and water and set out on a classic American road trip.  I first noticed the Grateful Dead in 1968 in English class at junior high school. Our teacher had put up posters on the wall of the classroom and we wrote essays about them.

He was attempting to stimulate creative WRITING but more importantly,
creative THINKING.

One was an American flag made out of swastikas and another was a solarized/negative photo of 5 hairy men standing in front of "LITTLE BOXES" type suburban tract homes.

Our English teacher
stopped working for the school system that year and has never been heard of since. That has happened often to people that go to see the Dead... They change their lifestyle and start associating

The US government announced yesterday a 25% tariff on all single malt Scotch whisky imports, as part of a wider set of tariffs aiming to punish the European Union.
Taking effect October 18th, the U.S. Trade Representative’s office released a list of hundreds of goods that will get hit hard beyond whisky. It includes Parmesan cheese from Italy, olives from France and Spain, wool clothing from the U.K, and European aircraft. The overall list covers approximately $7.5bn of goods.

 While Alabama remains out of Dorian's path, coastal areas of Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina are under hurricane warnings as the storm is now projected to move up the Southeastern coast.

 Over the weekend, President Trump also insisted that Dorian's projected path included Alabama.

It Seems to me that a BETTER Shirt would say "SZCA" Since her name was Sharon Z and She Lived in California... However I Did Not Tell Her That... I'm a Polite Person. I Would Never Satirize a Pathetic Dupe in Person. Unless they are Loudly Proclaiming That Jesus is the Only Way! Then, I am GLAD to Ridicule Those Mindless Vegetables. One Time I was attending a "Teach In" on Campus at College and... After the Event was Over I Asked The Man... "If You Believe That Premarital Sex Is A Sin, Doesn't That Reduce Your Chances of Getting Laid? He Admitted that Was True and Tried to "Spin" His Beliefs to Make Them Seem Wonderful... That Being a Virgin On Your Wedding Night was A Blessing... BOGUS! I Remember that Premarital Sex was a Blessing! and I'm Totally Glad I Did It... and I'm Totally Glad We Went to Planned Parenthood First So She Didn't Have a Baby in High School...  

 This Brings Me To The TV SHOW "Keeping Up With the Kardashians." I Guess People Watch That Show Because It's Still On after a Couple of Years... I Have Heard That The People in That Show are Famous for Being Famous... I'm More Impressed by PEREZ Hilton... He is Famous for MOCKING Paris Hilton... Good Job PEREZ! Another TV Show That I Never Watch is "Jersey Shore." It's About Young People Arguing With Each Other While On Vacation... Why Would Anyone Watch THAT?  And Yet, I Know A Person That Says She Likes "Reality" Shows... and I Could Hear Arguing Coming Out of Her Phone. By The Way, A Kardashian Was Displaying Her Expensive Jewelry On TV and Then She Got Robbed... Cause and Effect?

 I Like Comedy Shows. Samantha Bee, Steven Colbert Monologues and John Oliver Make Me Laugh at Bizarro World Republicans. I Wonder IF There are Comedy Shows That MOCK Liberals? I Don't Think So... My Autobiography: Growing Up in Los Gatos, California in the 1960s by Gregory Vanderlaan - and Living in San Jose, Washington DC, Chico, Eureka and Orangevale, CA.

I Was Born in 1954. We lived Near the San Jose Airport until they Started Landing Jet Airplanes and We had to move... We went to Los Gatos in 1960. I lived there until graduation from Los Gatos High School in 1972... an Ideal Childhood... FYI: Los Gatos is about 50 miles South of San Francisco on the edge of the mountains between San Jose and Santa Cruz.

I Went to West Valley Jr. College, learned electronics drafting and got a job at System Industries in Santa Clara... I feel blessed that not only did I grow up in a great location but I also grew up at a great time. I missed the Vietnam War by ONE Year and Silicon Valley Was Hiring Like Crazy When I Needed a Job.
