I miss arthouse movie theaters. I'm not even sure if they exist anymore. There were tons of them in the 90's. They showed independent and foreign films. I saw the Richard Linklater films in arthouse theaters, and several Irish movies like the Commitments, and some Scottish films like Trainspotting and Breaking the Waves, and so many others. In San Jose, the Camera One, Two, and Three were all arthouse theaters back then, and so was the Los Gatos theater and the Towne theater. I think the Cameras show mainstream movies now, and I know the Los Gatos does. Last I heard, the Towne only showed Indian movies, which certainly qualifies as foreign, but not the same as it once was. I remember seeing some really weird films there in the 90's.

I Saw "Brother from Another Planet", "Liquid Sky", "Polyester" (in Odorama) and "Atomic Cafe" - and we had The UPTOWN Theater that had a Giant Screen and A Rock Concert Sound System... We Saw "The Wall", "The Right Stuff" and "Koyaanisqatsi" - There you go... Seven Great Movies!
