There are many things that I truly appreciate... I like roads and the interstate highway system... I'm glad that we have the Fire Department... Since I was a criminal for the vast majority of my life I'm not too appreciative of the Police Department...

I'm glad that we have electricity and clean running water... I like flush toilets too... And I like the fact that I can just type on my computer and people will bring me food... Recently I've been ordering flour tortillas and sliced ham. I roll them up and it's a lovely snack... Top it off with chocolate candy... And maybe some potato chips... Bagels...

I believe that the war in Iran is idiotic. Just like the wars in Afghanistan, Iraq, Vietnam, Korea... "The Country" spends a lot of money and a lot of lives doing insane things... Like blowing up foreign countries... And just last week we harmed the country of Cuba by preventing any oil shipments... The electricity in that country is generated by burning oil... The cars run on gasoline...  How could wrecking Cuba possibly benefit me in any way???

And now the leader of the CIA is visiting Cuba??? Why???

A Friend Said: Hi Greg, Not sure if your local news covered a fire in downtown Weed. Apparently several old buildings on main street burned. Downtown was evacuated temporarily, but it was quite smokey. Got to be joke in there somewhere about Smoke in Weed.

And I replied:
I was buying gas in Weed, California... And I asked the guy working there if there was a good place to camp nearby... And he asked me: "What do you want? Like, a KOA with hookups or plain dirt camping?

And I responded: "I don't care! I'm a turtle!" Because I was driving around in my Ford Windstar Van with the mattress in the back... Just like a turtle, I carried my home on my back...

After I retired I drove 4,000 miles exploring the West... California, Nevada, Utah, Oregon and Washington State...

It gives me some insight into what's going on in Portland, Oregon... I've been there... And the thing I remember most was: I was trying to drive over the river to get to the State of Washington where marijuana was legal... and there was a huge traffic jam at the bridge going over the Columbia River... So when I finally made it to the weed store, I was still hyper and anxious... And I told the clerk that I really thought that the bridges over the Columbia Rivers sucked and traffic was a mess... And he said: "Oh yeah... We certainly know that... We live here!"

A little insight into the concept of Doom Scrolling... I find that the Faceborg algorithm delivers posts that always agree with my opinions... Zuckerberg has proved mathematically that people stay on Faceborg longer when they read messages that make it appear like the whole world agrees with me... The other thing I do with my computer is email my friends and family... We live far away from each other and it's really good to have daily contact with my brother... And to have a written record... I still have emails that my father sent me before he died and those are precious...

It creeps me out that twice this week I've been offered the opportunity to take a close-up picture of my face to accomplish a goal on the internet. I can tell that I made an obvious mistake back in the late 1990s by using my real name on the internet. Who knew that in 2025 the Secret Service would come around and interview me about things that I posted on Twitter... A friend of mine sells wrinkle remover cream for your face online and as part of the package you can scan your face and do a before and after comparison... Well I don't care about buying anti-aging wrinkle cream so I did not participate in this thing... The other wonderful opportunity is that instead of using a mouse to point and click on a website my Google Chromebook now has the ability to use my face to navigate... Well that seems like a total waste... And I wonder why do they want to know what I look like? Is facial recognition a new law enforcement tool? A way to find out if I'm a "enemy" of Donald Trump and a member of ANTIFA?

For Halloween This year I'm going to dress up as an ICE agent. So I can commit crimes without any fear of getting caught... A little armed robbery perhaps?

Forbes Mill Rock Music Hall and the Fre-Ba-Zak House... Youth Unlimited: Los Gatos, CA 1972 - A friend of mine went to San Francisco to the Fillmore West and came back to our high school and said... LET'S BUILD OUR OWN!

We used the Old Mill in the center of town. We formed an organization called "Youth Unlimited" and got the Town to Sponsor Us with $1 per year rent. 

That was the beginning of The Forbes Mill Teen Club in Los Gatos California... We had a light show and electric rock music every weekend... On Wednesday nights we performed folk music.  I was the head of security and did advertising posters. I used the mimeograph machine at the High School to print the posters for upcoming shows...

"Youth Unlimited" first held a concert in the Rec Room of the Presbyterian Church next to Old Town on University Ave. There was a live rock band that featured a saxophone player with an electric sax. We also formed a drum circle outside with me playing harmonica and a couple of guitar players. 

Since we had Town sponsorship of our "Teen Club" thru the organization Youth Unlimited, we had to make sure no laws were being broken at Forbes Mill or the police would shut us down. Certainly no drinking or illegal drug use or housing of runaways. My take on law enforcement was to direct potential lawbreakers to the nearby hole in the fence that lead to the wooded area next to the freeway.  I admit that a lot of laws were broken on State of California property, but that was NOT MY CONCERN. I was responsible for making sure that OUR property was crime free.

The light show was created by using four slide projectors and two spinning wheels with variable speed motors that blocked the light from reaching the white wall behind the bandstand. Each cardboard wheel had holes cut into it so that the slides would be projected in a stroboscopic manner.  Some slides were abstract art created by "crystal craze" paint and others were photographs.

We also owned a strobe light and I learned to not point it at the electric organ player because the blinking light made it impossible to see which keys were black and which were white...

"Youth Unlimited" also built a crisis center called Fre-Ba-ZAK House. 

 It was in an old wooden home on North Santa Cruz Ave. The idea was to have a place for runaways to have a safe location to negotiate with their parents. Kids that had nowhere else to go could go there ... My friend Richard Bergholdt worked there as a counselor. I used to go there because it was a fun place to go talk with other classmates... I remember drinking coffee and discussing weighty subjects late at night. One time I went there because I couldn't go home. I had gone to the Ike and Tina Turner concert at the San Jose Convention Center and took a Large Dose of LSD. I had to wait until my parents went to sleep before going home. It was a great concert and I remember that MANY of the students at LGHS went. I also remember listening to the FM radio there. Talks by Alan Watts about Buddhism... and the story "The Cave" by Plato. There were some totally free radio stations then. They had the freedom of selecting what to play and when to play it. I heard "Space Hymn" by Lothar and the Hand People at Fre-Ba-ZAK House.

In the 1960s I made tie dyed shirts using rubber bands and boiling the dye... one color... RIT brand named dye... and Mom sewed a shirt with bell sleeves and a Nehru collar... I wore it with a bell around my neck. Like, totally "mod"- like the fashion that was popular with the teenagers in England...

The Pool at the Swim and Raquet Club on Oka Road was 100 feet long. Most Pools are 25 yards. (Like the Los Gatos High School Pool) - Training in a longer pool was an excellent way to build endurance... For Example: if I got used to swimming a lap of butterfly... and then went to a competition in a shorter pool... I had an advantage... of Course, this didn't work when swimming at Foothill Junior College with their 50 meter pool...

I've had many jobs, schools and wives that have a major influence on what my life was like... First, I cut apricots at a farm in Los Gatos... That was horrible low-paid work... Then I bagged groceries and pushed shopping carts One Summer while I was in high school... I spent three years working as a clerk in an art supply store and I also unloaded trucks and moved merchandise onto the shelves... I spent 12 years working as a designer draftsman in many different computer companies... I spent five years delivering pizza for Domino's... I spent 6 years selling electronic equipment at Radio Shack... I spent one year making plastic parts at a factory... And I spent 7 years working as an eligibility worker at the welfare office in Eureka... At that job I interviewed people to find out if they were eligible to get benefits like food stamps, Medical and help with rent... 

And I lived in many different locations... I was Born in San Jose, California and then moved to Los Gatos when I was six... When I was 18 I went to Chico State College... Flunked out after 2 years went back to San Jose... Got married and then we moved to Columbia, Maryland and then Oxon Hill, Maryland and then Falls Church, Virginia... Then I moved back to San Jose after I got divorced... Then I moved back to Chico when I got fired at work for drinking... Got into AA... Got married again and moved to Eureka, California so I could go to college at Humboldt State University... Got divorced again and moved to an old folks home in Sacramento California...

I went to college many times... The most successful time was at Humboldt State University in Arcata, California where I graduated with the bachelor's degree in computer information systems... It's very similar to computer science except less calculus... I spent two years at Chico State... And one year and Howard Community College studying programming... And one year at West Valley Junior College studying electronic drafting... That worked out great because immediately after the year was over I got a job as an Electronics draftsman in Silicon Valley!

I've been married twice, no kids... And that's all I'm going to say about that!

I first noticed the Grateful Dead in 1968 in English class at junior high school. Our teacher had put up posters on the wall of the classroom and we wrote essays about them. He was attempting to stimulate creative WRITING but more importantly, creative THINKING.

One was an American flag made out of swastikas and another was a solarized/negative photo of 5 hairy men standing in front of "LITTLE BOXES" type suburban tract homes.

Our English teacher stopped working for the school system that year and has never been heard of since. That has happened often to people that go to see the Dead... They change their lifestyle and start associating with a different set of people...
