How to Prevent Nightmares:

Try Prayer: "Dear Lord, Please Let Me Sleep Peacefully Thru the Night." - Say That Right Before You Go to Bed... Might Work!

One thing that causes a lot of nightmares is watching the TV NEWS... They broadcast bad news, hate speech and danger - danger... All about subjects that you can't do anything about and don't really affect your life personally... For example: There's a horrible war going on in the Middle East... How is it important to me? It's crazy what those people over there are doing to each other... But there's nothing I can do about it... And knowing what's going on, watching them... Has no benefit to my life. 

Local news has some value but National is just crazy talk... Especially Fox News! Also CNN & MSNBC - they are all in the infotainment business... And we'll say whatever is needed to attract market share...

We've started watching gentle instrumental Christmas Carol music on the TV while they're showing pictures of houses all decorated with Christmas lights... I can watch that for hours... It's very peaceful... 

On a related subject... Quite often something on TV will trigger a memory of some horrible event in my past... And then when I realized that I'm reliving that event, I force myself to remember a pleasant event... Focus my attention on those good times... 

Step One: realize that I'm reliving a horrible event from the past. 

Step Two: think about something else... A Fun time!

Disclaimer: I'm an atheist 99% of the time but... During an earthquake I'm of True Believer! "Please Lord Make It Stop!" My brother said: "There are no atheists in foxholes." - and I replied: "That's mainly because they're packed with foxes! And they'll bite you if you get in their hole!" [FYI: a foxhole was a defensive hole in the ground used during World War I and World War II... You could prevent bullets from hitting your body if you had a bunch of dirt protecting it.]

If nightmares are a problem for you or your child, try these strategies:

1. Establish a regular, relaxing routine before bedtime. A consistent bedtime routine is important. Do quiet, calming activities — such as reading books, doing puzzles or soaking in a warm bath — before bed. Meditation, deep breathing or relaxation exercises may help, too. Also, make the bedroom comfortable and quiet for sleep.

2. Offer reassurances. If your child is struggling with nightmares, be patient, calm and reassuring. After your child awakens from a nightmare, respond quickly and soothe your child at the bedside. This may prevent future nightmares.

3. Talk about the dream. Ask your child to describe the nightmare. What happened? Who was in the dream? What made it scary? Then remind your child that nightmares aren't real and can't hurt you.

4. Rewrite the ending. Imagine a happy ending for the nightmare. Encourage your child to draw a picture of the nightmare, "talk" to the characters in the nightmare or write about the nightmare in a journal. Sometimes a little creativity can help.

5. Put stress in its place. If stress or anxiety is an issue, talk about it. Practice some simple stress-relief activities, such as deep breathing or relaxation. A mental health professional can help, if needed.

6. Provide comfort measures. Your child might feel more secure if he or she sleeps with a favorite stuffed animal, blanket or other comfort object. Leave your child's door open at night so that he or she won't feel alone. Leave your door open, too, in case your child needs comfort during the night.

7. Use a night light. Keep a night light on in your child's room. If your child wakes up during the night, the light may be reassuring.

A friend of mine was suffering from PTSD caused by his time in Vietnam. He went to a sweat lodge with his tribe and ate peyote. When I'm watching TV I always mute the sound during commercials... Because they are annoying and I never have a need to know what they say... Especially frightening are the medicines that have horrible side effects spoken about by a voice-over announcer while they're showing film of people dancing... And doing other fun things... Playing with their children... Marching in a parade... While the voice-over announcer is talking about the side effects like Suicidal Thoughts... I don't need to hear that crap! It's like pouring poison right in your brain...

'BURN IT ALL DOWN' Angry leftists threaten violence if GOP replaces Justice Ginsburg before election – as AOC urges Dems to pack the court

LIBERAL writers and academics have threatened to burn down Congress if Republicans press ahead with plans to appoint a new Supreme Court judge before the election.

A former CNN host was among prominent figures who appeared to encourage violent uprising following the death of left-wing hero Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

Justice Ginsburg's death on Friday left a vacancy on the Supreme Court - setting up an explosive battle over one of the most contentious issues in American politics.

Democrats are furious after Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell suggested the GOP would hold an early vote to confirm Donald Trump's pick to replace her with a conservative.

Outspoken Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez even suggested Democrats would try to pack the court with liberals by increasing the number of judges from the current nine.

As fury raged in Washington, high-profile leftists hinted at violent insurrection in posts on social media.

Trump-bashing former CNN presenter Reza Aslan tweeted to his 293,000 followers: "If they even TRY to replace RBG we burn the entire f***ing thing down."

Screenwriter Beau Willimon, who produced House of Cards and is the president of the Writers Guild of America, East, also vowed action.

He told his 164,000 followers: "We’re shutting this country down if Trump and McConnell try to ram through an appointment before the election."

'THERE WILL BE RIOTS'

Emmett Macfarlane, a professor at the University of Waterloo in Canada, tweeted: "Burn Congress down before letting Trump try to appoint anyone to SCOTUS."

Political commentator Laura Bassett, who writes for GQ and the Washington Post, said: "If McConnell jams someone through, which he will, there will be riots."

Daddy Files author Aaron Gouveia tweeted: "F*** no. Burn it all down."

Last night Ocasio-Cortez said Republicans were "violating" Justice Ginsburg's dying wish that she should not be replaced until the next president is sworn in.

The firebrand congresswoman stoked the row still further by saying Democrats should “absolutely” consider packing the court.

She said: “We should leave all options on the table, including the number of justices that are on the Supreme Court.”

Democrat nominee Joe Biden is due to make a speech on the subject later today, but has so far resisted Trump's call for him to name his own shortlist.

President Trump has appointed two Supreme Court judges in his first term - tipping the panel to a 5-4 majority for conservatives before Ginsburg's death.

He said yesterday he would seek to nominate a replacement "without delay" and said a woman will be top of his list.

Trump said: "We were put in this position of power and importance to make decisions for the people who so proudly elected us, the most important of which has long been considered to be the selection of United States Supreme Court Justices."

Sen. McConnell said Trump's nomination would get a vote in the Senate, where the GOP's majority could seal the appointment before November.

But Republicans were accused of hypocrisy after they blocked a vote on President Obama's pick for the Supreme Court shortly before the 2016 election.

Leading senators including Lindsay Graham were savaged for apparently going back on promises they made four years ago.

He said in 2016 that the appointment should be left to the incoming president and said the same rule would apply if a vacancy arose at the end of Trump's first term.

Joe Biden was also accused of U-turning after saying in 2016 that Congress had a "constitutional duty" to fill the vacancy even before an election.

He tweeted after Ginsburg's death: “Let me be clear: The voters should pick a President, and that President should select a successor to Justice Ginsburg,”

Conservatives are keen to appoint another right wing judge to the lifetime position, creating a 6-3 dominance that could last decades.

Liberals fear such a one-sided panel could reverse decades of progress on civil rights such as abortion laws.

Trump is set to name his pick in the coming week and already has shortlist in mind, according to reports.

In a phone call with McConnell on Friday night, Trump indicated he favored two women in particular, sources told The Washington Post.

Judge Amy Coney Barrett and Barbara Lagoa are now tipped as the front-runners.

Preventing California's Wildfires: Stop Climate Change OR Increase Logging to remove fuel? Or Do Both? We Are Burning Up Now and Next Year Will BE WORSE.

Interior Secretary Zinke says that increasing logging would make people safer because there would be fewer trees to burn... and firefighters could put out the fires easier... Of course, if we simply used ONE THOUSAND helicopters to dump water on the fires we could put them out. Why not bring all the Helicopters home from the wars in Afghanistan, Syria, Iraq, Yemen and Africa? We could employ the soldiers as firefighters... bring them home and keep them safe...

Do not increase logging in the Redwood Forest. We are logging at a good rate already. The people that run the Pacific Lumber (Now known as Humboldt Redwood Company and Mendocino Redwood Company) are doing a fine job already. No Logging of OLD GROWTH... Cut only as much as grows every year and we can log forever. Redwoods grow in a cool and rainy climate and we have not had a lot of wildfires here...

Should we remove trees in Pine, Oak and Douglas Fir forests in order to reduce hazards? Does that makes sense at all. The people at "The Earth Island Institute" say that increased logging does not make us safer...

But Pine, Oak and Fir trees grow quickly and if we cut down the forest... or "Thin" the forest (as Zinke says) we can plant new trees and they will grow quickly... We do use boards to build houses... but there is no real need to Log OLD GROWTH REDWOODS for lumber... It is possible to build a fine home without Redwood Boards... Why NOT log pine, oak and Fir forests?
