Watch movies from the 70's and 80's, and you'll see what I mean. Those fashions may look dated now, but people looked gorgeous in those fashions back then! I remember some of my outfits from the 80's, and they were FABULOUS! And I appreciate the fact that straight hair is in style now because it was extremely time-consuming to get 80's hair out of my naturally straight, fine hair....but I spent hours getting my hair to hold a curl in the 80's, and it didn't look stupid, it looked great! And I've always loved the fashions of the 70's. I wore bell bottoms and vintage 70's dresses in the 90's, and it looked great! Some day people will look at pictures from the 20-teens and 2020's, and they'll laugh and wonder how we thought we looked good in the ridiculous hairstyles and clothes that we wore. For some reason, people have a tendency to forget that things don't become stylish because they're ugly, they become stylish because they're beautiful! And just because new things come along and become stylish, that doesn't make the old styles any less beautiful! Watch some movies from the 70's and 80's - or better yet, watch some music videos from the 80's, and you'll see that people looked gorgeous in those clothes and hairstyles!

VK Replied: I'll admit I do think the 80s has a very distinguished hairstyle with people wearing these large owl glasses, but I've noticed that fashion keeps getting recycled. Like about 10+ years ago bell bottoms were in again and now the high waisted pants and crop tops are back in. I'm personally not a fan of the high waisted stuff with crop tops because I hate having anything right around my waist. Now tie dye is also super in again too. LOL

SE Replied: Yeah, everything comes back in style eventually...but I've noticed that certain things never really go out of style. Like, in one of my mid-century groups, someone shared a photo of some young women in the 60's wearing plaid miniskirts, and I had skirts exactly like that in the 80's, 90's, and I even have one now! It's a look which never went out of style, but when you see a picture from the 60's, the picture looks dated, but people actually still wear skirts like that and probably always will.

RB Replied: after WWII the navy pants were popular that was the first big bells. Then Levi made the big bell. Later in the 70s the flared came out. The same but it was tight above the knee and then flared out to the shoe but not as big as a bell. 

RB Replied: In the disco days I was a young adult in my 20s. I wore one night white pants with platform shoes, colorful silk shirt, a white jacket and a scarf with a ring. And sported an Afro. Before that in the sixtys as a kid we wore nothing but old worn out Levi’s flared or big bell with leather and such patches . And a white tee shirt with a Derby Jacket and a beanie oh and cause we were Italian a gold luck horn necklace. Lol oh and desert boots.

I Think it was Called "Mod" - Like the Fashion of London during the Beatle Years... I also made my own Tie Dyed T-Shirts Using RIT DYE and Rubber Bands... For a Halloween Costume at work we all dressed up as the TV Game Show "Deal or No Deal". My Task was to Make Fake Money. My Printer at Home Refused to Print the Money because it SOMEHOW KNEW that I was attempting to Counterfeit... so I Told my Boss That I Couldn't print money. She took a Disk of my artwork to Kinko's and They Printed a Hundred Fake Bills with our Boss's Face on them. Big Success! People all over the office complex kept those bills and thumb tacked them to their cubical walls... and Dr. Crandall Himself Reportedly Loved the Fake Money with His Picture on it. My Printer Printed Half a Bill and then Stopped... and printed a Website URL "for help" ... So I Typed that URL into my Computer and There Was NO Actual Help... Now I'm Registered with the Secret Service as a Failed Counterfeiter because I visited That website...

IMHO: The American Civil War was a BAD IDEA. We would all be better off if The South was a Different Country.

Things to Consider: 

 First: 700,000 people died... Not Wonderful... 

 Second: We would save a lot of money currently wasted on Welfare, Food Stamps and Unemployment Checks. The South Takes more Money from the Federal Government that it pays in Taxes... 

 Third: Most of the Black People would have STAYED in the South. Compton, Watts and South Central LA would simply NOT EXIST... [at least not as they are today] ---> No "Gangsta Rap" Music <---  South Side of Chicago? Definitely NOT "the Baddest Part of Town" because Leroy Brown Wouldn't Live There... Washington DC, the Murder Capital of the USA? It would be a lovely and safe town... East Palo Alto? That's where all those Stanford Students Live... 

 Fourth: NO Presidents would ever be elected from Texas. Obviously, George Bush the Son was an ASTONISHINGLY STUPID MAN... If we did not have the Civil War, he would have been just another Oil Company CEO... 

 Fifth: Here in the North we wast a LOT of Money on Incarceration of Black Men. We wouldn't have to pay for that expense if the Blacks lived in the South. THEY might have a problem in the South but... Foreign Countries often have troubles that we don't worry about... 

 Finally, I believe that Black People would have had a Revolution and FREED THEMSELVES from Slavery.  Think about it... Black outnumbered Whites by about 10 to 1... Would they REALLY have Tolerated Slavery? Not Likely... Especially in the 1960s when There were all those Black Power Movements... Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, Huey Newton, Black Panthers... How long would Angela Davis remain a Slave? About 5 Minutes... 

 We still could have allowed people from the South to Visit for Employment and Vacations. What if Willie Nelson wanted to TOUR? He could get permission to work in the USA... We already allow Foreigners to come to America to Play Basketball in the NBA... and MLB and NFL... 

 Oh, Well... Live and Learn... We Made a Mistake back then but... "Won't Get Fooled Again!"

JUST ANOTHER MIRACLE

This lyric is about my time working at the plastic factory in Chico. We made wheels for wheelchairs. One day after work I was extremely stressed out about the miserable conditions I was working in and a wise lady suggested that I have Jesus bless each wheel and all that ride. I was handling hot plastic and working extremely quickly to fit tiny nuts into the wheel before the plastic cooled and the wheel shrank in size to be too small to fit the nuts. This basically meant that I was franticly rushing to fit 9 nuts into a wheel that was burning my fingers. She suggested the blessing as a stress reliever for me. Fortunetly, my boss came to the realization that I was the wrong person for this particular product and never made me make that type of wheel again. I did become THE wheel maker of another type. I did continue to bless the wheels. I am an atheist but... WHY NOT BLESS THE WHEEL... Eventually I made thousands of wheels. A useful way to spend my time... *

My Autobiography: Growing Up in Los Gatos, California in the 1960s by Gregory Vanderlaan - and Living in San Jose, Washington DC, Chico, Eureka and Orangevale, CA.

I Was Born in 1954. We lived Near the San Jose Airport until they Started Landing Jet Airplanes and We had to move... We went to Los Gatos in 1960. I lived there until graduation from Los Gatos High School in 1972... an Ideal Childhood... FYI: Los Gatos is about 50 miles South of San Francisco on the edge of the mountains between San Jose and Santa Cruz.

I Went to West Valley Jr. College, learned electronics drafting and got a job at System Industries in Santa Clara... I feel blessed that not only did I grow up in a great location but I also grew up at a great time. I missed the Vietnam War by ONE Year and Silicon Valley Was Hiring Like Crazy When I Needed a Job.
