But it’s a deadly beauty: if all those hundreds of millions of tonnes of coal actually do get excavated and burnt, Germany can say goodbye to its climate targets. In recent years the country has started waking up to what climate catastrophe might actually look like: blisteringly hot summers and apocalyptic rainfall that has the ability to sweep both towns and lives away.

Environmental groups oppose the German government’s decision to allow the mining and burning of coal in the country until 2038, a deadline the activists say is too late to effectively tackle climate change.

Activists, dressed in colored overalls and braving wind and rain, were also protesting the planned destruction of several villages to make way for the expansion of the Garzweiler strip mine, west of Cologne.

A Milwaukee County Circuit judge was arrested by the FBI Friday and charged in federal court for allegedly helping an undocumented immigrant avoid arrest.

Judge Hannah Dugan is facing two charges for obstruction and concealing the individual from arrest. She made an initial appearance in court and was released.

The arrest on federal charges is an escalation in the Trump administration’s focus on judges’ conduct, particularly as it relates to immigration enforcement. The Justice Department has repeatedly asserted that it will investigate any local officials who do not assist federal authorities on immigration matters.


“We believe Judge Dugan intentionally misdirected federal agents away from the subject to be arrested in her courthouse, Eduardo Flores-Ruiz, allowing the subject — an illegal alien — to evade arrest,” FBI Director Kash Patel said on X in a post Friday morning. “ I'm obviously out of my mind but you're just not familiar with behavior from people from the planet Uranus. Ok what I have described to you is a cult. Since he is quickly destroying the norms of global democracy and trading, this has become a “destructive cult.” I’m not going to lie, liberals aren’t too far behind this crazy toxic behavior, but at the end of the day they’re not close to how bad the Republican establishment has become.
You can see evidence on my page as I criticize policies of Donald. His base immediately attacks. Their eyes roll up like a shark ready to bite and it’s “you hate this, you hate that, you hate hate hate!” Not one of them are reasonable, not one. And frankly that scares the hell out of me.
