I understand the appeal of soccer as a sport that YOU PLAY in school... With the sports football and basketball there is a significant advantage to being a large person or a tall person... With soccer there is no advantage and so it's more equal for everyone to play... And there are no complex rules either... You just run around and kick the ball and Eventually it goes into a Goal area at one end or the other And everybody cheers...  Plus there's no expensive equipment to buy... So poor people can have fun too...
