I love travel shows... especially Michael Wood's The Story of China and the Story of India... 

In China, A power struggle followed Mao's death in 1976. The Gang of Four were arrested and blamed for the excesses of the Cultural Revolution, marking the end of a turbulent political era in China. 

Deng Xiaoping outmaneuvered Mao's anointed successor chairman Hua Guofeng, and gradually emerged as the de facto leader over the next few years.

Deng Xiaoping was the Paramount Leader of China from 1978 to 1992, although he never became the head of the party or state, and his influence within the Party led the country to significant economic reforms. The CCP subsequently loosened governmental control over citizens' personal lives and the communes were disbanded with many peasants receiving multiple land leases, which greatly increased incentives and agricultural production. In addition, there were many free market areas opened. The most successful free market areas was Shenzhen. It is located in Guangdong and the property tax free area still exists today. This turn of events marked China's transition from a planned economy to a mixed economy with an increasingly open market environment, a system termed by some[67] as "market socialism", and officially by the CCP as "Socialism with Chinese characteristics". The PRC adopted its current constitution on 4 December 1982.

This TV Travel Show reminded me of the Forest Of Redwoods in Northern California...

There is a Fallen Down Log behind our home in Eureka, CA... I sat on that log for over a decade and smoked cigarettes... No smoking in the house, that would be rude... and unhealthy for my roommate who has asthma... So I went out back into the Redwood Forest... I GROK Becoming one with Nature.
I have a tree here in Orangevale... It's smaller and at the moment very thirsty but soon it will rain and the leaves will expand... I look at it every day...

On a Different Subject:

Washington DC: At the Air and Space Museum Gift Shop I Bought Thin Plastic Sheets of Diffraction Grating. When You Look Thru the Plastic Sheet You See Rainbows is All Directions from Every Point of Light. Well, I Cut that Sheet into Four Pieces and Scotch Taped Two of Them as Replacement Lenses for Paper Movie Theater 3D Glasses. That way You Could Wear The Rainbows While Walking Around, Dancing or Riding as a Passenger in a Car on the Freeway (Driving is Not Recommended - You Might Get in a Car Wreck!)

SO... I Had the Habit of Giving these MAGIC Glasses to People and Blowing their Minds!  After All, I Could Just Make More! One Time I Gave a Pair of these Glasses to a Man Who was Selling Quartz Crystals in the Parking Lot of RFK Stadium before a Grateful Dead Concert... and then He said; "Would You Like to Break Bread With Me, Brother?" and I Said "Yes" and Ate The CENTER SQUARE of a Round Loaf of San Francisco Sourdough Bread... and Went on My Way... 


and Then... Later... I Was Tripping on LSD! That Surprised Me Because I Had Not Bought any LSD From Street Vendors... and I Had Not Eaten any LSD... BUT IT WAS UNMISTAKABLE!  

That Particular Concert was EPIC because There was a Thunder and Lightning Rainstorm and The Football Field Turned Into a Sea of MUD... There Were People Running and Diving and Sliding... Just Like they Did in the Movie "Woodstock." I Danced in the Mud but Did Not Slide...


After the Show I Did a "Power Walk" Just Like Carlos Castaneda and don Juan Did in those Books... I Took a Step, and Experienced Everything There Was to Know about That Particular Location... and When I Had GROKKED It Fully... I Took Another Step... and Experienced Everything There Was to Know about That Particular Location... SO... What Happened Was... I walked Extremely Slowly All the Way to the Car... and People were Streaming Past Me "Rapidly." - It Was Like a Scene from the Movie "Koyaanisqatsi" - and Some People Were Laughing and Pointing... "Watch OUT! That Guy Is Moving REALLY FAST! Danger Danger! He'll Knock You Right Over!" - In Fact: Deadheads are SILLY PEOPLE!

I learned how to Play DEAL by the Grateful Dead on my Acoustic Guitar... and It's One of My Favorite Songs to Sing and Play in Public... One time I was in LAFAYETTE PARK right across from the White House and One of The Homeless People I Was Singing For said... "I Really Like that song about a DEER." - Misunderstood Lyrics... So Common...  On the other Hand, One Lady Did Not Care for GOLDEN ROAD because the Lyric "She's a Neon Light Diamond, She Can Live on the Street." Doesn't Amuse People That Are Actually Living on the Street...

I Loved Going to Lafayette Park Because There Were Endless Protests Going On There... No Nukes! and Anti-War! and Random Other Causes Were Attracted to That Location. During the Gulf War of George Bush the Father I Played The Big Marching Band Bass Drum in a Drum Circle Designed to DISTURB HIS SLEEP and Remind Him That We The People Were NOT HAPPY With His War... A Man Named "Kodiak" Owned the Bass Drum but he was Tired of Standing and Holding it Up... They are Heavy! So He Asked Me to Play It For a While...  and I also Played a Paddle Drum with Buddhist Monks There... They Played a VERY STRANGE and COMPLEX Rhythm... I asked Why and They Said It Requires the Drummer to FOCUS Their Mind - a Technique Useful in Meditation...

Koyaanisqatsi: Life Out of Balance, is a 1982 American experimental film produced and directed by Godfrey Reggio with music composed by Philip Glass and cinematography by Ron Fricke.

 The film consists primarily of slow motion and time-lapse footage of cities and many natural landscapes across the United States. The visual tone poem contains neither dialogue nor a vocalized narration: its tone is set by the juxtaposition of images and music. Reggio explained the lack of dialogue by stating "it's not for lack of love of the language that these films have no words. It's because, from my point of view, our language is in a state of vast humiliation. It no longer describes the world in which we live."[3] In the Hopi language, the word Koyaanisqatsi means "unbalanced life".[4]

 The film is the first in the Qatsi film trilogy: it is succeeded by Powaqqatsi (1988) and Naqoyqatsi (2002). The trilogy depicts different aspects of the relationship between humans, nature and technology. [5] Koyaanisqatsi is the best known of the trilogy and is considered a cult film.[6] However, because of copyright issues, the film was out of print for most of the 1990s.[7] In 2000, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress for being "culturally, aesthetically, or historically significant".[8]
