Nice... When I went to college we read a book called "a language older than words" by Derek Jensen... It was all about inner species communication... Just like in this video... That was the interesting class... It was all about ecology... And the teacher rode a bicycle to work everyday... And I got to meet a lot of interesting young people that were not in the computer science department... Humboldt State University attracted a lot of hippies... And it was especially delightful to chat with the 20-year-old women... Me being 50... 

So the first thing we did in class was rearranged the desks and chairs so they formed a circle... When we arrived they were in straight rows pointing at the front of the classroom... The Kyshtym disaster, or Mayak nuclear accident, was a major nuclear disaster in Russia. It occurred on September 29, 1957, and involved an explosion of a tank containing high-level liquid nuclear waste. It was the second worst nuclear accident in history. Smaller than Chernobyl but larger than f*ck you Shima.

Cause and Impact:
The accident was caused by a malfunctioning cooling system in a tank storing radioactive waste. The tank exploded, releasing a large amount of radioactive material into the atmosphere.

The released radioactivity contaminated an area of over 15,000 square kilometers, known as the Eastern Ural Radioactive Trace (EURT). It is estimated that the disaster released 20 million curies of radiation.

Secrecy and Aftermath:
The Soviet government initially kept the accident a secret, and the full extent of the disaster wasn't revealed until the 1980s. The American CIA kept it secret to prevent adverse consequences for the fledgling American nuclear industry.[30]

Thousands of people were evacuated from their homes, and an estimated 49 to 55 individuals died from radiation-induced cancer.

The accident led to long-term health consequences for those exposed to the radiation, including increased rates of cancer and other health problems.

Mayak's Significance:
The Mayak facility was the first and largest nuclear facility in the Soviet Union, established to produce plutonium for nuclear weapons.

The accident highlighted the safety risks associated with nuclear waste storage and management, and the potential for large-scale disasters.

Mayak is still in operation and continues to be a significant source of nuclear waste.

Lake Karachay was a small lake in the southern Ural Mountains in central Russia. Starting in 1951, the Soviet Union used Karachay as a dumping site for radioactive waste from Mayak, the nearby nuclear waste storage and reprocessing facility. Today the lake is completely infilled, acting as "a near-surface permanent and dry nuclear waste storage facility."[1] According to a report by the Worldwatch Institute on nuclear waste, Karachay is the most polluted (open-air) place on Earth from a radiological point of view.[8]

Built in total secrecy between 1946 and 1948, the Mayak plant was the first reactor used to create plutonium for the Soviet atomic bomb project. In accordance with Stalinist procedure and supervised by NKVD Chief Lavrenti Beria, it was the utmost priority to produce enough weapons-grade material to match the U.S. nuclear superiority following the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Little to no consideration was paid to worker safety or responsible disposal of waste materials, and the reactors all were optimized for plutonium production, producing many tons of contaminated materials and utilizing open-cycle cooling systems which directly contaminated the thousands of liters of cooling water the reactors used every day.[2][3]

As part of the investment recovery effort, all or parts of some major plant components, including steam generators, feedwater heaters, large pumps and motors, demineralized water and condensate storage tanks, main condenser tubes, and some piping and valves were removed and sold. Additionally, some usable components were transferred from Bellefonte to other TVA facilities as spares.[3]

  SACRAMENTO (UPI)- Gov. Edmund G. Brown today signed Into law a bill making it a crime to manufacture, sell, possess or use the dream drug LSD. Brown said the new law would head off "a growing threat to society, particularly to young thrill-seekers unaware of the damage it (LSD) can do.” The bill, by Sen, Donald L. Grunsky, R-Watsonville, outlaws the promiscuous use of the drug which backers of the legislation say is reaching epidemic proportions on college campuses. But it permits LSD to be used in research projects conducted by recognized hospitals and clinics.
