Life After Death: 3 Possible Paths - Heaven/Hell, Reincarnation or Nothing Happens at All.

I figure that I'm in a good situation no matter what happens when I die... Because... according to the Christian Church, if you accept Jesus Christ as your Personal Savior... You go to Heaven... And I did that in 1976... And I really meant it... But I've gone to Church maybe three times in the last 50 years... So I'm what's technically called a "Backsliding" Christian... And that's good enough!

I don't know too much about reincarnation... But I don't recall any action required on my part... I think it just happens and I'll end up being reincarnated as a dog or something... With no memory of My Life as a human... I have heard that if you behave morally during your life you get reincarnated as a higher form of life Next Time Around. And if you do Evil you get reincarnated as a lower form of life. 

I have a feeling that that's a convenient excuse for the rich people in India to explain the reason why their lives are wonderful while the vast majority of the people are starving... "You did evil in a previous life." That's something that no one can ever check to see if it's true... But the people who are suffering can simply stop complaining and "Shut the F*ck Up! You did it to yourself!"

And if you get everything right, you don't get reincarnated at all... you become one with God. And that's only happened once as far as We Know. The Buddha. 

And of course, if nothing at all happens... I won't even know!

If anyone chooses to purchase life insurance on me it certainly won't be me... I'll be dead and I won't care... But maybe members of my family should buy Life Insurance as a bet... I'm guaranteed to die so the only question is will the monthly payments be greater than the total payout?

My brother and I filled out an official form explaining how much medical attention I wanted... And what to do with my body after I'm dead... It was notarized... And a copy given to my doctor and my brother... Of course, the real question is what do we do if he dies first... And in that case his daughter takes over the trust fund that pays all my bills... And is in charge of who gets what from my inheritance... But the one thing that is for certain... I don't have to do anything and I don't need to worry about anything because we figured it all out years ago...

I want a reasonable amount of doctor care to prevent my death but not excessive... My family will determine what a reasonable amount is... I want my body cremated and buried under a tree so that my body can feed the tree...

The one thing I'm certain about is: I don't want to spend years in pain... If my body becomes painful I want to be medicated with Morphine or Fentanyl or Oxycontin... Some powerful drug... Maybe start every morning with a cannabis cookie...

A part of my future... is the fact that I built an online business that does not require me to be alive to function... As long as the overall Corporation Called Zazzle is in business they will be mailing my family royalty checks...

"The term "culture wars" is used by many well-meaning people, including many progressive writers and activists I admire. It's a convenient way to refer to a number of issues. But in this current political moment, I think it's a highly misleading euphemism. What we are experiencing in America right now is an asymmetrical attack on basic freedoms -- a fascist movement that thrives on targeting certain groups, erasing history, and spreading dangerous falsehoods through a vast media apparatus. To call this a "culture war" is to legitimize the contemporary GOP and its extremist counterparts as a coherent and authentic "culture" worthy of respect. This is a misuse of the concept of culture, creating a false equivalence between marginalized groups and those who would harm or eliminate them in a quest for ever more power. Depending on the issue, more accurate language might include the words authoritarianism, theocracy, or demonization. Or simply the aforementioned "fascism"!

A "culture war" also implies a degree of abstraction in the realm of ideas instead of lived experiences. It's a polite way of putting things on the plane of debate. But would we refer to the segregated South of the 1950s as a mere clash of cultures? Or does that obfuscate reality?

Fun fact: in the early aughts, I did some website work for a professor who wrote the book that popularized the term "culture wars." Written in 1991, it was about the battles between traditional orthodoxy vs. progressivism. In the context of the time, when there were many news stories about the religious right railing against the arts, I think the terminology made a little more sense." -- Jen Sorensen

As a child my family climbed the Cinder Cone. It's a pile of volcanic ash. It was difficult to climb as we slid down while walking up. "Two steps forward one step back." The whole family went. Uncle Marc and Aunt Peg, Cousins Robin and Jill.

We camped at the Lake and went to a campfire talk by Park Rangers. They told the story of the Indians of Lassen and the History of the Volcano exploding. Lava flowed as far away as Chico. The volcano once was a giant mountain in prehistoric times... They showed illustrations of how big it was in comparison to the seemingly tiny mountain that remains...

The highlight of my trip to Lassen was the Bubbling Mudpots of Bumpass Hell. It's a valley of hot springs that is bright orange and yellow. Extremely hot sulfur vents out of the volcano making lakes of hot bubbling mud. It was named for an early explorer, Mr Bumpass, who fell into a mudpot and died from the heat. There are sulfur springs right on the road but the best ones are an easy one mile hike away from the parking lot. The rangers built wooden boardwalks for tourists to go out over the mudpots safely.

In the 1990s I went to The end of the road at Mount Lassen with some friends from AA. That's where people park when they want to climb the mountain. We walked around and looked at the view but did not climb the mountain. I took out my guitar and sang the song "Truckin'" to the hikers... It's special to sing at High Altitudes.
