I saw a comment earlier today which I can't stop thinking about. Someone said that social media was meant to be a way to bring people together, to connect us with people all over the world who are different from us and open our minds. But what it actually did was made it possible for people to connect with people who are exactly like them, who think exactly like they do, etc. and it has actually NARROWED a lot of people's minds instead of opening them. I think this is true, and it's sad.

And then some guy said:
I think about this a lot, because I exist in a lot of places, and I’m actually shamed often from other leftists for being in those spaces and interacting with people in them, but I don’t really get how anyone is supposed to hear a different viewpoint if I’m supposed to stay out of everywhere where there’s people who don’t hold the same beliefs as me

and then the original author said:
I understand what you mean. I don't really go to places full of right-wingers because I have a history of being bullied, and right-wingers on social media tend to be extremely cruel to anyone who thinks differently, so I avoid those spaces as much as I can because I don't want to be bullied. But I frequently try to engage them on my own page to try to understand where they're coming from, how they can support Trump after everything he has done and continues to do to disrespect our country and our Constitution. But I also think I've connected with people online who are different than I am, and that's a beautiful thing. But our country is SO divided right now, thanks to Trump...so I'm not sure if it's possible to have positive interactions with random right-wingers on social media. I think that as long as Trump is still in the picture, things are going to remain divided. But I long to get past this point and get back to a place where we can politely disagree and still remain friends. Maybe I'm overly optimistic, but I believe we'll get back to that once Trump is no longer ruling the right.

It's dangerous to express your opinion around MAGA Morons... A lot of them own guns... For a long time I debated with three men that I knew in high school... They were simply wrong... So I just blocked them... And if they're dead or alive... I don't know! And what their opinions are about anything... I don't know!
