I had a Dream about a Painting in a Gallery. The gallery is three stories tall and each floor had a painting of a Redwood Tree to make up the triptych...

I can't pretend that I LIKE this art... Or that it is GOOD art... But that's what I dreamed... and since I find it difficult to get it out of my head, I had to draw it.

I'm certain that this has some meaning... SRL...

But the important part of the whole situation is that for years I've had the belief that I could build myself an "Idea Factory" and think of Concepts while I Sleep... Like: go visit an art gallery and look at the painting and then draw it when I wake up... Or read a book while I'm dreaming and then write down the plot when I wake up... Etc etc etc...

I'm reminded of the fact that the movie Star Wars was filmed in the Redwood Forest near Eureka... And that scene of the flying motorcycle chase took place on private property... Because you can't have explosions and fires and other special effects in a park or on public land... In That particular Forest, all the trees have been cut down... so you can't really visit the scene of the Star Wars movie... Because it's not there anymore... 

Other scenes were filmed on Highway 36 between Eureka and Red Bluff... And those are in a park and people can go and enjoy them...

For Thanksgiving:

I'm thankful that I quit Smoking and Drinking... That allows my mind to think clearly and my Writing is better because of that... Strangely, Smoking Tobacco gave me Paranoid Schizophrenia... After I Quit I Realized That I'm too insignificant for BIG BROTHER to Bother with Spying on me... Those White Unmarked Vans parked in front of my House is Really just Government Employees Taking a Lunch Break in a Location that Has a Nice View... They are Looking at Humboldt Bay and the Pacific Ocean... not me...

The very first New Year's poster at the Fillmore!

Bill Graham's first New Year's Eve Bash was a legendary, all-night extravaganza with additional bands dropping by to supplement the advertised fare. It was 58 what seem like short years ago, that the music played 'til dawn, sometimes falling on the deaf ears of the somnambulant, and Graham and his staff served breakfast to those who stayed the night. This night would quickly become Graham's favorite of the year, with staff members playing the part of just birthed babes of the New Year while Graham literally flew over the scene as the patriarchal Father Time. The Grateful Dead and Jefferson Airplane were at all the early New Year's concerts, and the Dead made it an annual gig for years. Quicksilver Messenger Service also were on the bill for this nights show.

This happens to be one of my favorites that master rock artist Wes Wilson did for the Fillmore. I'm a sucker for posters with an hourglass on it. Sort of marks the passage of time. This is BG Fillmore poster number #37 in the old series printed two times. The grey psychedelic stylized letters cascading through the woman's hair are silver colored on the original first printing. In person it's a knock-out! Click the pic to see the full image.

Cheers for the New Year.....

While most remember this revolving color wheel that was usually used at Christmas time on the tree, I used it all the year round as it illuminated the different colors on all the posters that hung on my bed room walls. As a young teen, my friends that weren't allowed to go to the BIG shows and night time Ballroom happenings loved coming over to listen to records and check out my Rock posters and Psychedelic visuals. With one of these, a black light and a small strobe light I had my own little light show happening right at home!
Funny, the things that remind us of our youth!
Ahhh...Those were fun days

Although not a rock concert poster, if you know the styles of the major artists of the era you just might make out that here is an early piece from one of the Big Five Masters … Wes Wilson. This "Poster From The Past" is for a peace demonstration in San Francisco. 55 years ago on November 15, 1969... The New Mobilization West. This peace march began at 7AM at Pier 29 on the Embarcadero and traveled to the Polo Fields in Golden Gate Park for the 2PM rally.
The central image here I feel are images of Good & Evil. The figure on the left raising his hand with a Peace gesture (looks sort of like George Washington). The figure on the right wearing a helmet of war with 666, the sign of the incarnate of Evil along with a bandoleer of bullets across his chest. His fist sports a thumbs down gesture which can mean death.
The text across the top is a quote from the Bible. Isaiah 2:4 … "And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people … and they shall beat their swords into plow shares and their spears into pruning hooks".
All and all a very interesting poster for the times which can also be considered a psychedelic piece for sure. Printed just once.
