and here is a letter written by my brother...
Hi family:
By now you probably have received your sample ballot for the September 14 election, and seen that there are 46 candidates running to be California’s governor, should the Gavin Newsom recall be successful. The candidate with the highest number of votes wins, which means that someone who gets only about 5% of the total votes cast could become governor! Most of the candidates are of the worst possible Trump-lovers, with the candidate that is highest in the polls being a right-wing radio talk show host who has been using his radio show to stir-up his followers for months.
There are lots of reasons to oppose the recall process, but our choice at this point is to VOTE NO on the recall, and ask your friends to join you. The outcome will all depend on voter turnout. You will get your ballot in the mail in the next few days. Fill it out and mail it back. It is as simple as that.
Any of the 46 alternate candidates would be an environmental disaster and undermine California’s leadership in green energy and EVs. The candidates also want to repeal the state-wide minimum wage, and roll back all manner of progressive policies.
If you want more information, I suggest you visit the website of the California League of Conservation Voters Current Endorsements | California League of Conservation Voters (ecovote.org). Then write a personal email, letter, or make a phone call to your friends and urge them to vote.
Thank you, Marty (dad)

and then I read on Facebook... SE SAID:
Fellow Californians: be sure to mark your calendars for September 14, 2021, because that’s the date of the recall election for Governor Newsom. It’s important to vote that day, because if more Republicans than Democrats vote that day, there is a possibility that Newsom could be recalled and replaced by some right-wing nutjob. I don’t know if we will be able to vote by mail on this or not, but please set aside time on Sept 14 to vote “no” on the recall. The ballot will ask whether or not you want to see Newsom recalled, and if the answer is yes, it will ask who you want to see as his replacement. It’s very important that as many Californians as possible vote “no” to the question of whether or not we want him recalled! This is very important. We do not want right-wingers seizing control of our state!
September 14th! Save the date, and VOTE!!!
and A Guy on Facebook Said: Our household is voting NO on the Republican Recall. If California was its own sovereign nation, we would be ranked the 5th largest economy in the world. We are not going to hand the reins of running this state over to a reality TV star, a radio talk show pundit nor a real estate broker. I agree that Gavin has made mistakes, however, they do not rise to the level of being fired from office. Vote NO on the Republican Recall!
and now for something completely different

It’s interesting how much we take for granted here in California. This past Saturday, late in the afternoon, my friend and I took a ride up the Peninsula to San Francisco. That took about 40 minutes from San Jose. We hit heavy traffic in the City and on the Golden Gate Bridge, where we complained about the crappy drivers while we marveled at the beautiful view of the City and the bay. We had a nice dinner on a patio overlooking the bay in Sausalito, watching the boats and ferries, and of course that beautiful view of the City. On our way back over the Golden Gate Bridge, I remarked, “You know, people come from all over the world to see this.” Back in the City, we were using Coit Tower as our reference point to get to North Beach. “Just keep Coit Tower in your sight, and you can’t miss it,” I said. When we couldn’t find parking right away in North Beach, we ended up following a winding road all the way to Coit Tower, where we stopped and looked out at the breathtaking views of the City and the bay. Later, after drinks and people-watching in North Beach, we decided to head home at around midnight. As we were driving out of the City, we saw the flickering lights on the Bay Bridge. Back in San Jose, I couldn’t help thinking how lucky we are. All those things we did in one evening, all the things we saw, which we see all the time and barely notice - many people will go their whole lives and never see those things at all.
VK Replied: It's like Lake Tahoe just an hour and a half from us, one of the most beautiful and talked about lakes in the world.
SE Said: Yeah, these are just a few of the reasons why our state is so overpopulated and expensive, because we have so many wonderful things which people come from all over the world to see and experience. That’s why it always makes me laugh when certain right-wingers describe CA as a “cesspool,” and they act like no one wants to live here. I know that they’re really just jealous.
