Germany protests call for leadership on climate action From Berlin to Cologne, protesters have gathered to demand more from the government in the fight against climate change. Greenpeace said Germany must lead, and that means phasing out coal.

Thousands of protesters gathered on Saturday in Berlin and Cologne to demand bolder measures to combat climate change. Some 36,000 people joined the rallies.

 Organizers said the protest aimed to pressure the government into ending Germany's reliance on coal for its energy needs and instead looking to renewable energies, such as solar energy and wind power.
"The point is that Germany must phase out coal by 2030," Jennifer Morgan, who leads Greenpeace International, told the Agence France-Presse news agency.
"What happens in high-tech Germany, how quickly the climate-damaging combustion of coal is replaced by solar energy and wind power, is very important, also for other countries."

Greenpeace Energy, a German electric utility that runs independent of its titular founder, has announced this week plans to buy out RWE Group’s lignite coal business and replace it with 8.2 GW worth of renewables by 2025.
The German cooperative electric utility announced its plans on Monday, revealing that it has already begun offering talks to RWE Group and other relevant stakeholders ranging from the local level to the German Government.
“What we propose is a huge chance for the Rheinische Revier – and brings us a big step forward in climate protection,” said Sönke Tangermann, CEO of Greenpeace Energy. “Our concept is financially fair for all sides and designed so that redundancies can be avoided.”

The energy company RWE intends to destroy the last remnants of Hambach Forest between October 2018 and February 2019 so that it can continue extracting coal from Hambach open-cast mine.

Great Movie: A Fierce Green Fire. A History of the Ecology movement.

Includes many films of Greenpeace saving the whales and the Brazilian rubber harvesters saving the Rainforest of the Amazon. It's an Optimistic movie showing that people can change the world.

We really need to fight the current President's destruction of the Environmental Protection Agency. Trump has appointed corporate lobbyists to head the agency and repeal environmental protection laws. Trump stands for more drilling for oil and gas in the USA, more fracking and more pollution of the air and water. The protection of the environment costs corporations money. It's far cheaper to simply dump toxic poison into the river... Dow chemical and Dupont are very happy to collect increased profits at the expense of the people of the USA.

AND... Trump sings the praises of "Clean Coal"... A fundamental lie... It's obvious that coal mining causes black lung disease and coal burning causes air pollution. Trump believes that speaking words can reverse reality and somehow make Coal Clean. Absurd.

I Was Born in 1954. We lived Near the San Jose Airport until they Started Landing Jet Airplanes and We had to move... We went to Los Gatos in 1960. I lived there until graduation from Los Gatos High School in 1972... an Ideal Childhood... FYI: Los Gatos is about 50 miles South of San Francisco on the edge of the mountains between San Jose and Santa Cruz.

I Went to West Valley Jr. College, learned electronics drafting and got a job at System Industries in Santa Clara... I feel blessed that not only did I grow up in a great location but I also grew up at a great time. I missed the Vietnam War by ONE Year and Silicon Valley Was Hiring Like Crazy When I Needed a Job.
