My favorite place to watch the race is at the old elementary school in Manila about 1 PM an hour after the race starts... 1611 Peninsula Dr, Arcata, CA 95521

That's where the Kinetic Sculptures change Wheels from Road Wheels to Sand Wheels before they go on the beach... You can walk on the route all the way from the school to the beach and then back via Dead Man's drop... An exciting part of the race... Because it's so Steep and often the sculptures crash... For the Glory!
