Great Book: "Gödel, Escher, Bach: An Eternal Golden Braid" by Douglas R. Hofstadter - Early Computer Science, The Similarities between Art, Music and Math

I remember that after reading this book I Set Up a "TV Camera Filming It's own Monitor" - It Explored the Realm of Runaway Visual Echo... The Camera "SEES" The TV Set That Displays What It "SEES" - and around and around and around it goes... COSMIC!

This Book also Has a Story Told One Paragraph on Each Page Just Like "Divine Right's Trip" in The Whole Earth Catalog...
This Story Explores in a Humorous Manner The Race Between a Tortoise and A Hare... a Classic Math Question...

A metaphorical fugue on minds and machines in the spirit of Lewis Carroll...

Douglas Hofstadter's book is concerned directly with the nature of "maps" or links between formal systems. However, according to Hofstadter, the formal system that underlies all mental activity transcends the system that supports it. If life can grow out of the formal chemical substrate of the cell, if consciousness can emerge out of a formal system of firing neurons, then so too will computers attain human intelligence. Gödel, Escher, Bach is a wonderful exploration of fascinating ideas at the heart of cognitive science: meaning, reduction, recursion, and much more.

Great Book: "The Empty Mirror: Experiences in a Japanese Zen Monastery" by Janwillem van de Wetering, a Detective Fiction Writer of "Outsider in Amsterdam"

https://www.amazon.com/Empty-Mirror-Experiences-Japanese-Monastery/dp/0312207743/

Seen by many as a contemporary classic, Janwillem van de Wetering's small and admirable memoir records the experiences of a young Dutch student―later a widely celebrated mystery writer―who spent a year and a half as a novice monk in a Japanese Zen Buddhist monastery.

It is the first book in a trilogy that continues with A Glimpse of Nothingness and Afterzen.

Great Book: "When Einstein Walked with Gödel: Excursions to the Edge of Thought" by Jim Holt - Deep Ideas and Questions of College Professors...

https://www.amazon.com/When-Einstein-Walked-G%C3%B6del-Excursions/dp/0374146705
Does time exist? What is infinity? Why do mirrors reverse left and right but not up and down? In this scintillating collection, Holt explores the human mind, the cosmos, and the thinkers who’ve tried to encompass the latter with the former. With his trademark clarity and humor, Holt probes the mysteries of quantum mechanics, the quest for the foundations of mathematics, and the nature of logic and truth. Along the way, he offers intimate biographical sketches of celebrated and neglected thinkers, from the physicist Emmy Noether to the computing pioneer Alan Turing and the discoverer of fractals, Benoit Mandelbrot. Holt offers a painless and playful introduction to many of our most beautiful but least understood ideas, from Einsteinian relativity to string theory, and also invites us to consider why the greatest logician of the twentieth century believed the U.S. Constitution contained a terrible contradiction―and whether the universe truly has a future.
