I worked at the Food Stamp office for 7 years in Eureka, California and I have a little insider knowledge... The most important part of the system is that when people don't spend actual money on food they have the freedom to spend their actual money on other things... Shoes, clothes, school books, paper and pencil, backpacks for the kids, cars, rent... 

By using a dollar from the federal government for food you free up $3 in real money for the local economy... 

And a lot of your food stamp dollars ends up being paid to American farmers... And truck drivers that deliver food to the grocery store... And checkers... And baggers... And Midnight Stockers... People are paid salaries at jobs... 

It's a subsidy for the agriculture industry... And as a side benefit, children eat food... 

We were instructed by management at the food stamp office to award as much as legally possible... Because Humboldt County Wins Big when the federal government pays for food stamps... 

And oh yes, it's true that some people sell their $1 food stamp for 50 cents so they can buy drugs and alcohol... Putting a boost to the illegal drug Market and the farmers and dealers that work here... And police are employed, prison guards are employed, judges, lawyers, bails bondsman... There's a huge industry here! Or at least there was until marijuana was legalized and then our economy crashed... 

And Elon Musk made the decision to cut food stamps when he was stoned out of his freaking mind on ketamine, magic mushrooms, marijuana and ecstasy... Was he making brilliant decisions when tripping??? I think not!

I did notice that the main source of fraud in the Welfare Office was committed by employees at the management level...
