SE SAID:
I just saw a post about a new high-density apartment complex which recently opened in San Jose. One-bedroom apartments start at $3000 a month, and 2-bedrooms start at $7000. People are jumping for joy and chanting the zombiefied chant of "we need the housing." I know for a fact - because I've been looking - that there are plenty of older one-bedroom apartments available in San Jose for around $2000 a month. It makes absolutely zero sense to me that all of the new buildings charge so much. I also disagree with "we need the housing," because a lot of those luxury apartments are remaining empty. Even the people who can afford it don't want to flush $7000 down the drain on rent every month.
San Jose is notorious for being a poorly-planned city which was built up too fast without much forethought. Some things never change, I guess.
And I replied:
The only reason you need housing in San Jose is because that's where the jobs are... If they would just move the jobs elsewhere... Housing is much cheaper in the Central Valley... And you could put those light industrial Office Buildings in abandoned shopping malls which are near where people already live...I've met people that commute from Sacramento to the Bay Area for work... What a horrible waste of life: commuting... Stuck in traffic jams...
And SE replied:
I agree, I've wondered for years why more of the tech companies don't build offices in the Central Valley so people who live there won't have to make that crazy commute anymore.
