In the summer of 2024, Joe and I traveled to the ends of the earth for a gig, as we had done many times before. But there in the Souris Show Hall on Prince Edward Island, something strange happened. And I’m not talking about the lobster in the fridge!
The local opener, The Burning Hell, was fucking fantastic.
They had songs about revolution! And not only that, the songs were funny, and weird, and had turns of phrase that gave me chicken-skin. In ‘Dirty Microphones’, a song about a post-apocalyptic punk band missing their touring days, they sang “we never got anywhere, but we went everywhere”. And Joe and I turned to each other with tears streaming down both our stupid faces.
So, we invited Mathias Kom and Ariel Sharrat to my house in the woods, and spent a glorious few days watching VHS tapes, drinking wine, and writing songs that made all of us laugh uproariously. Here’s one of them.

I'm feeling like our family really needs to step up. There really is no more FEMA so our presence at disasters is needed more than ever. There is also no longer medical care. We need to bring C.A.L.M out to the streets and neighborhoods because folks suffering from curable illness is our next disaster. This is who Rainbow Family are...we dig shitters in July and the rest of the year we should be serving our communities. We have the skills and the heart to do these things. No one is coming to save us so we must be on the frontlines to save everyone!!
