The Department of Homeland Security says it won’t comply with California’s new law banning law enforcement officers — including ICE agents — from wearing masks during operations.
The law, signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom, came after backlash over masked immigration arrests across SoCal earlier this year.
DHS fired back, calling the law unconstitutional and warning it puts agents in danger as threats against them rise.
This sets up another clash between California and federal authorities — with U.S. officials saying the state has no power to regulate their operations.
