Studies have also found that more Republicans than Democrats have died from COVID-19. According to a study, excess death rates in Florida and Ohio were 76% higher among registered Republicans than Democrats from March 2020 to December 2021.

Covid death rates are higher among Republicans than Democrats, mounting evidence shows. Lower vaccination rates among Republicans could explain the partisan gap, but some researchers say mask use and social distancing were bigger factors.

and then on FaceBorg SE Said:
The jazz festival in San Jose was awesome yesterday. We were there until almost 11pm, and the festival was still going at that time. I've always loved evening festivals because the sun and heat are not an issue. The music is surprisingly not at all what you would expect. I did not hear any traditional jazz music at all, aside from the big band/swing music on the swing stage. But the rest of the music was more like jazzy funk. There is also a blues stage and a latin jazz stage. Many people dance, which renewed my interest in learning ballroom dancing. I've always wanted to learn, but have never taken lessons. But every time I see people doing ballroom dancing, it makes me wish I knew how. So perhaps I'll be motivated to sign up for lessons at some point.
One of the cool things about the jazz festival is the way it's laid out. It takes up a huge section of downtown San Jose, and you have to do a LOT of walking to get from one stage to the other. So of course it was great exercise. Thankfully, it wasn't nearly as hot as the weather forecast had predicted. The high temperature only reached about 84, and it dropped down into the upper 60s in the evening. Plus, there is a ton of shade there, and the buildings of downtown SJ provide additional shade as you wander through town to the other stages.
There is a TON of great food at the festival, interesting food which you don't see at most other festivals. I ate some bao buns, an arepa, a frozen watermelon drink, and a birthday cake/cotton candy soft serve ice cream cone. There was so much more that I would have eaten if I'd had room for more food. I actually wish we had gotten tickets for the entire weekend so I could go back today and try more of the food. In the future, I'll make a whole weekend out of the festival. This is the third time I've been. The last time was in 2019.
The overall energy of the festival is very positive. It became more crowded as the night wore on, and most people bring folding chairs to sit in. We did not bring folding chairs, but I will definitely bring one next time. In addition to the food, there are other vendors selling really interesting and different merchandise. Many of the vendors are from Africa, selling African products which you don't see very often. I meant to go back and buy some patchouli oil (because you can never have enough patchouli oil) and some African black soap, but I got so distracted by everything else that I forgot. In 2019, I bought some hurachie shoes there which I wear all the time. There were also some really interesting clothes for sale which I considered buying, but ultimately I did not buy anything except food.
San Jose friends: I highly recommend this festival. Don't be worried about the "jazz" part. There is no Kenny G, nothing even remotely like Kenny G, and none of that awful free jazz. The music is not at all what you expect. This festival is really different, and really worth experiencing. Buy tickets for the entire weekend, bring a folding chair, and make a weekend out of it.
I was so busy enjoying the festival and the company of the person I was with, I did not take many photos. The only ones I took were these two pics of some of the food I ate: my arepa, and my birthday cake/cotton candy soft serve cone. I tried to get some video of the swing stage, but my video didn't turn out very good, so I deleted it. My feet ache today from all the walking, but I feel like I got some great exercise, which is another plus of the jazz festival. You really burn off all of the food you eat.

JB Replied:
You need to try and take more pictures I know many people are interested...

and SE Said:
I usually take more pics, but sometimes I’m having so much fun that I don’t want to be distracted by my phone in any way. Yesterday was one of those times. I just wanted to leave my phone in my purse and be present with the person I was with.

I find it terrifying that Christian’s hold so much power. They are breaking the 1st and second commandments. They are worshipping man and not God. They think Trump is a divine intervention. Trump thinks he is superior to everyone. They think the same. They make themselves God’s to their children and tell them God said unspeakable acts were ok since they are supposed to honor thei their parents. That would be the 4th commandment. Then they keep their kids in the same emotional gutter by telling them not to go do anything to better themselves because they are scared they will go out into the world and actually find out the truth.
We don’t have faith because our parents crushed our faith in something bigger than them.
At least that’s how it was for me. My father used to speak at churches. My father spoke at my daughter’s funeral. Lies, lies, lies. The thought of ever honoring my parents truly goes against everything I believe in.
Just a thought.

On FaceBorg I Read:
A message of empathy to guitarists when it comes to learning music theory...🙏

It's totally normal to be confused at times. Unlike the piano, the guitar was not designed for an efficient overlap with how theory is constructed!

The guitar was designed for open chords to be easy to play with full-sounding voicings. It's a culture. It's about singing tunes around a campfire with friends or jamming in a garage... It's relatively easy to pick up and the first few open chords are accessible to strum. But the moment you start wanting to go a bit deeper, things get kind of confusing...

Just look at an open E major. It's one of the first chords you learn as a guitarist. It's a triad! Yet you play 6 strings on the guitar when you play an open E major 🤔.

Yes... but that's because notes repeat. Got it! So, what are the notes of this voicing from bottom to top? E, G#, B, E, G#, B? NOPE! Because the notes are actually NOT in that order. Sorry. It's E, B, E, G#, B, E.

🎸🎹And look at the fretboard! And how the notes are laid out. On the piano the easiest way to learn a chord or a scale is not to use shapes, it's to learn the notes of the scale, and THEN, just play those notes on the keyboard. It's easier to think of notes which implicitly require learning the theory behind scales first!

On the guitar, a shape is definitely your best option if you want to play quickly and not step 4 hours finding the notes on the fretboard. So you learn shapes and forget about the reason behind them or their notes. I get it!
So many things stack up against the guitarist in their quest to make sense of what is going on, even with the best intentions!

I get why you would give up and just play without thinking about it. I did that too. But I promise you that there is a way to learn theory efficiently in a way that makes sense. It doesn't have to take long, and when you get to the other side, your instrument and music, in general, will open up in a way that's hard to envision.

So if you're motivated to learn theory, or re-motivated after a long break, GOOD FOR YOU! You won't regret it. And don't feel bad if you find it confusing. Theory is not difficult, but it often IS for guitarists, and that's okay.

and then SG Replied:
I often avoid using theory for lessons for this reason. More often than not, it seems to confuse people. I could definitely see how theory is more easy to visualize and approaching on piano. When I explain triads to more intermediate students, I generally use the piano to show it.

and then SOD Said:
Theory is theory. It is applied differently on a piano than guitar. It is applied differently again on a flute or the bagpipes. But it is not harder.
That E Major triad is the same across every instrument. The easiest way for a beginner to play it on guitar is the way you have described but that does not make the concept any more difficult.
If I'm trying to figure out chords on guitar I am certainly guided by scales rather than shapes and I imagine any semi-serious guitarist would be the same.
The guitar originated in Spain early in the 16th century, so I think it's probably a bit of a stretch to say it was designed for open chords (but happy to be corrected).
I think where many piano players do have an advantage is that their learning is structured from a very early stage so they learn basic concepts (correctly) and can then apply those concepts to an understanding of more complicated ideas.
