Donald Trump pledged to “drain the swamp” of money and influence in Washington. But sludge has kept pouring in — and some of it is coming from foreigners who are trying to buy sway with the president and his advisers.
Lev Parnas and Igor Fruman, associates of Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani, were arrested on Thursday and charged with trying to aid Ukrainian and Russian foreign nationals by secretly directing $325,000 to a pro-Trump super PAC.
And they are only the latest in a string of moneymen and women connected to Trump — including possible Middle Eastern donors to Trump’s inaugural committee, Mar-a-Lago neighbor Cindy Yang, GOP fundraiser Elliott Broidy and imprisoned former Trump campaign chair Paul Manafort — who have come under scrutiny since 2016 over funneling foreign money into American politics.

Ukraine sanctions two businessmen tied to Giuliani...
Ukraine on Friday announced sanctions against two businessmen with ties to former President Trump’s personal attorney Rudy Giuliani, accusing one of selling titanium products that ended up in the hands of the Russian military.
Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council announced the sanctions against Dmytro Firtash and Pavel Fuks, though it added that the exact details of the penalties would be detailed in a separate decree from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, according to Reuters.
Security council secretary Oleksiy Danilov said in a briefing that Firtash, an influential businessman in Ukraine who has been indicted in the United States on bribery and racketeering charges, received the sanctions due to "his involvement in the titanium business.”
The Ukraine-born Parnas and Belarus-born Fruman were charged over their alleged use of a shell company to make an illegal $325,000 donation to a committee supporting Trump’s re-election.
In the new indictment, prosecutors added charges accusing Parnas and U.S.-born David Correia of conspiring to induce people to plow more than $2 million in their insurance company Fraud Guarantee, but spending much of it on rent, luxury car leasing payments, political donations and other expenses. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-trump-giuliani-idUSKBN26T37M

Poll of the week: A new Gallup poll finds that 59.2% of Americans say they're thriving. Additionally, 73% of Americans said they experienced enjoyment for a lot of the previous day.
