We were also growing many plants including Morning Glory Flowers that eventually got so tall that they climbed up to the roof of the little house. The tomato plants produced an abundance of food... quite a miracle... especially to eat them hot off the vine... the earth in Chico is dark black and fertile...

When I worked at the Welfare office in Eureka I Had a LOT Of Contact With People from those Tribes... They REALLY Understand The Salmon as They Have been Living in Harmony for a Thousand Years... The Fish have a FIVE Year Cycle and If One Year (like 2021) has a Massive Kill then The Total Population is Reduced by 20%... The Four Years of Salmon living in the Ocean are not Affected...

We Had a Massive Kill During the Presidency of George Bush the Son... Same Problem... The Potato Farmers in Oregon wanted the Water for crops but the Fishermen wanted to Keep the Fish Alive... My Brother in Law is a Tourist Fly Fisherman who came out here from Delaware on Vacation specifically to Fish the Klamath and Trinity River...

What Finally Happened was there was a Huge Loss of Money for the Motel Owners, Tour Guides and Restaurants who depend on the Salmon to Attract Tourists... about ten times the Increase in profit of the Potato Farmers...

I Started at Age 19 When I Found out That a Half and Half Blend of Marijuana and Tobacco got me Higher using less Weed. The Same Idea as "Hamburger Helper." - So I Always preferred Roll Your Own Cigarettes. Bugler or Top. and Then Later, when I Had Money... American Spirit... a Can cost $34 Dollars... 200+ Cigarettes... and I Often Stopped smoking after Half a Cigarette and saved the "Roach" for later... Unrolling it and Putting the Enhanced Tobacco Back in the Can. VERY STRONG TOBACCO near the Bottom of the Can... and I Did Experience Paranoid Schizophrenia... or as I Like to Call It: "Channeling My Inner Chewbacca." - Just a General Background Rage... and a Belief that The Government Was Spying on Me... Anyway Greg, I do Understand. Ended up in the hospital last year for 2 months and had to go to a nursing home for a month before they would let me go home. they didn't want to. I had to beg. So during that process I ended up QUitting a 48 year smoking habit. Not much choice when you are hooked up to oxygen in the ICU.... It's been awful....My husband who I have been with since September of 1972 still smokes a bit and goes outside to do it and I can't go out there with him like we always did because I am afraid I will smoke again. I hate this.

I Replied: I felt the Craving fade away after a year of not smoking... and YES... a Year is a Long Time... Maybe two years... but I Don't have it NOW.

Klamath River Un-Dammed - 2002 Fish Kill Disaster... Trinity River Memories... NorCal & Oregon

The Klamath River Basin in California and Oregon has been obstructed by different dams for over 100 years. The first dam was constructed in 1908, and the last was erected in 1962. In 2002, a catastrophic fish kill resulted in over 70 thousand salmon deaths, and this kicked off the fight to restore the Klamath River Watershed to its original glory. 4 of 6 dams are slated to be removed over the next few years.

I have a Personal Feeling about the Klamath River... My Brother in Law Came all the way from Maryland to Fly Fish that River... It's a Classic Trip involving Hiring a Local Guide, Renting a Room and Eating at Restaurants...

However, in 2002, George (American Idiot) Bush the Son DIVERTED the Water to Potato Farmers in Oregon. More Water, More Potatoes, More Profit... What He Didn't Realize was that the Lack of water would KILL the Salmon... How would he know? He's just a BOUGHT Politician and the Potato Farmers Bribed Him...

anyway... The Oregon Tourist Business Lost a Fortune because... without FISH... NO Fishermen come to Visit... No Rooms Rented, No Guides Hired... and No Restaurants Selling Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner... The Bottom Line was that the Tourist Money LOST was MUCH GREATER than the Increased Profit from selling Potatoes...

I learned that the Salmon have a Five Year Cycle... They get Born, Swim to the Ocean... spend Five years out there and Then Swim Back to the Same Place that they were born... So the Fish Kill of 2002 did NOT effect the 2003, 2004, 2005, or 2006 Salmon Runs... but 2007 was a bad year to be a fish... and 2012... 2017...

I have swum in the Trinity River... it flows into the Klamath... On a drive along Highway 299 coming home I got stuck in a construction zone traffic Jam... and it was over a Hundred Degrees... NO Air Conditioning in the Car... so as soon as we were free to proceed... I drove to the First Place to Jump in the River... and BLISS!

He is a co-author of Deep Green Resistance, and the author of Endgame, The Culture of Make Believe, A Language Older than Words, Bright Green Lies, and many other books.

George Bush sold water to potato farmers in Oregon. That caused a Massive fish kill. Now, Once every five year there is a low salmon population.

Ironically, while the farmers grew more potatoes and made MORE money that year, the LOSS to people catching fish, renting motel rooms to tourist fishermen and selling Guide services was TEN TIMES AS MUCH as the profit selling potatoes.

A classic example of WHY it's a bad idea to bribe politicians to do favors for one industry or another. A BETTER PLAN is to do what is right instead of doing what the corrupt lobbyists want... Nowadays, Trump has sold the entire Government to the highest bidder and we have more pollution, more Fracking, more drilling for oil and gas and MUCH MORE pesticides and herbicides... One time My Brother and Sister in Law came to Visit and we stopped at The Trees of Mystery... But we did not go inside... We just enjoyed the Gift Shop and took Photographs in front of the Giant Sculptures... Gary was on the way to go Fly Fishing on the Klamath River and Beth was visiting her sister... I learned from Gary that Salmon have a Five Year Cycle and the Massive Fish Kill caused by George Bush the son [the American Idiot] only effected one year out of Five... Gary did catch a lot of fish and we were grateful for his donation to our household... we put it in the freezer to cook "later" and somehow never did... Oh Well...

I stopped there often when I was traveling to Brookings Oregon in order to Buy Legal Marijuana. There was a Year when Grass was Legal in Oregon but not in California and about every two weeks I would drive there to buy an Ounce... The law limited each purchase to be a Maximum of 7 Grams per day but there were FOUR (4) Stores in Brookings... A very pretty town... especially the Yacht Harbor...
