Washington DC: At the Air and Space Museum Gift Shop I Bought Thin Plastic Sheets of Diffraction Grating. When You Look Thru the Plastic Sheet You See Rainbows is All Directions from Every Point of Light. Well, I Cut that Sheet into Four Pieces and Scotch Taped Two of Them as Replacement Lenses for Paper Movie Theater 3D Glasses. That way You Could Wear The Rainbows While Walking Around, Dancing or Riding as a Passenger in a Car on the Freeway (Driving is Not Recommended - You Might Get in a Car Wreck!)

SO... I Had the Habit of Giving these MAGIC Glasses to People and Blowing their Minds!  After All, I Could Just Make More! One Time I Gave a Pair of these Glasses to a Man Who was Selling Quartz Crystals in the Parking Lot of RFK Stadium before a Grateful Dead Concert... and then He said; "Would You Like to Break Bread With Me, Brother?" and I Said "Yes" and Ate The CENTER SQUARE of a Round Loaf of San Francisco Sourdough Bread... and Went on My Way... 


and Then... Later... I Was Tripping on LSD! That Surprised Me Because I Had Not Bought any LSD From Street Vendors... and I Had Not Eaten any LSD... BUT IT WAS UNMISTAKABLE!  

That Particular Concert was EPIC because There was a Thunder and Lightning Rainstorm and The Football Field Turned Into a Sea of MUD... There Were People Running and Diving and Sliding... Just Like they Did in the Movie "Woodstock." I Danced in the Mud but Did Not Slide...


After the Show I Did a "Power Walk" Just Like Carlos Castaneda and don Juan Did in those Books... I Took a Step, and Experienced Everything There Was to Know about That Particular Location... and When I Had GROKKED It Fully... I Took Another Step... and Experienced Everything There Was to Know about That Particular Location... SO... What Happened Was... I walked Extremely Slowly All the Way to the Car... and People were Streaming Past Me "Rapidly." - It Was Like a Scene from the Movie "Koyaanisqatsi" - and Some People Were Laughing and Pointing... "Watch OUT! That Guy Is Moving REALLY FAST! Danger Danger! He'll Knock You Right Over!" - In Fact: Deadheads are SILLY PEOPLE!

One time I was in LAFAYETTE PARK right across from the White House and One of The Homeless People I Was Singing For said... "I Really Like that song about a DEER." - Misunderstood Lyrics... So Common...  On the other Hand, One Lady Did Not Care for GOLDEN ROAD because the Lyric "She's a Neon Light Diamond, She Can Live on the Street." Doesn't Amuse People That Are Actually Living on the Street...

I Loved Going to Lafayette Park Because There Were Endless Protests Going On There... No Nukes! and Anti-War! and Random Other Causes Were Attracted to That Location. During the Gulf War of George Bush the Father I Played The Big Marching Band Bass Drum in a Drum Circle Designed to DISTURB HIS SLEEP and Remind Him That We The People Were NOT HAPPY With His War... A Man Named "Kodiak" Owned the Bass Drum but he was Tired of Standing and Holding it Up... They are Heavy! So He Asked Me to Play It For a While...  and I also Played a Paddle Drum with Buddhist Monks There... They Played a VERY STRANGE and COMPLEX Rhythm... I asked Why and They Said It Requires the Drummer to FOCUS Their Mind - a Technique Useful in Meditation...

In 2015, when researchers Anne Case and Angus Deaton discovered that death rates had been rising dramatically since 1999 among middle-aged white Americans, they weren't sure why people were dying younger, reversing decades of longer life expectancy.

After their cleaning lady finds pot in the house, parents (Phil Hartman, Julia Sweeney) hire motivational speaker Matt Foley (Chris Farley) to talk to their teens (David Spade, Christina Applegate) about drugs and their future. 

Now the husband-and-wife economists say they have a better understanding of what's causing these "deaths of despair" by suicide, drugs and alcohol. In a follow-up to their groundbreaking 2015 work, they say that a lack of steady, well-paying jobs for whites without college degrees has caused pain, distress and social dysfunction to build up over time. The mortality rate for that group, ages 45 to 54, increased by a half percent each year from 1999 to 2013."

What is going on, then, with death rates for middle-aged whites? Case and Deaton aren't sure, but they argued that alcohol abuse, suicides and the opioid epidemic have something to do with it. The rate of fatal "poisonings" for instance — a category that includes drug overdoses — more than tripled among middle-aged whites since 2000.
Economic struggles have likely contributed as well. Case and Deaton also found that the increase in the death rate has been driven by people with less education. For those without a college degree, the economy in recent decades has been increasingly miserable. This may explain why some have turned to self-destructive behaviors, such as drug and alcohol abuse.

Problem area: Men’s employment
The percentage of men between the ages of 25 and 54 and who are employed has dropped consistently since the early 1960s.
Problem area: Low-education individuals, especially men
Broadly speaking, people with higher education have done well in recent years, and people without college degrees have suffered. Once again, this is especially true for men.
Problem area: People wanting to own a home
The good news is the market value of the nation’s real estate finally climbed back past its pre-recession peak in 2016. It rose higher still in both 2017 and 2018.
The bad news is the percentage of Americans owning a home remains lower than it was before the Great Recession.
Problem area: Rural America
Certain portions of the country, largely rural areas, have suffered in an economy that tends to reward highly educated areas. 
These have suffered from the cumulative decline of manufacturing and their lack of proximity to faster-growing "knowledge industries" that are typically based near cities.
In a self-perpetuating cycle, economic distress in these areas has produced addiction and poor health outcomes, which in turn further erodes economic prospects.
GOOD NEWS! 
The unemployment rate is either at or near all-time lows, both overall and for major racial and ethnic groups. The economy continues to create substantial numbers of jobs on a monthly basis, and quarterly increases in gross domestic product, while not stratospheric, have been solid. Even wages, which had been stagnant overall in the first few years of the recovery following the Great Recession, have been increasing beyond the rate of inflation.
Indeed, there’s lots to celebrate, said Gary Burtless, an economist with the Brookings Institution.

I remember that We used to Ride Bicycles all over town when I was Growing up in Los Gatos.

 I remember Barry Hill and I raced down from the Novitiate... too fast and I Hit a short brick wall, flipped over the handlebars and Landed in a Bush on my Back with my toes still in the toe clips... Bent that front wheel and we had to buy a replacement at the Flea Market...  I also Rode to the Rosicrucian Museum... That's a long ride... Once Joe Franck and I tried to Ride to Big Sur but I quit before I got to Summit Road... He and his other Friends Made it... Amazing... My whole family rode on Freeway #280 on the Day before it opened... Smooth White Concrete for miles... thousands of other bikers... Bikes were a way to have freedom of motion at ZERO Cost. No Need to ask my parents to drive me anywhere because I could Just Ride... and tell them where I was Going... and sometimes I even arrived at the Declared Destination!
Years Later My First Wife and I Rode from New York City to Washington DC. It Took about 2 Months... We Traveled LESS than 50 miles a day. MANY Days we didn't travel at all... It was a Vacation and often we stayed by the pool at the Campgrounds... In Rural New Jersey and Maryland many farmers have private campgrounds to make some easy money... We Went from One to the Next and the Farmers would call ahead, make reservations with friends of theirs. Once they came looking for us because we had gotten lost and didn't arrive on time... Thanks! I remember that it was downhill for 60 miles to the Delaware River... We Rode as fast as the Cars that were passing us... Maybe 50 MPH... and then... 60 miles uphill... 

 I posted this on my Facebook Group... "Things I Remember Growing up in Los Gatos" and my Neighbor Victor Koman posted something... That reminded me of Driving my Dad around during his last year of life... We went Down Highway #9 towards Saratoga and Turned Left at The Library... Drove to the TOP of the Mountain and Visited a Subdivision Dad Built... Apollo Heights... On Orbit Road... There was Still an Empty Lot for Sale all these years later... You could Look Down on the Paul Masson Winery... see Moffett Field and Los Gatos... That subdivision was one of his greatest accomplishments... It was all just bare land when he started and the only way a Customer could visit their lot was by riding a Burro... He arranged for a road to be paved, electricity, water sewers... etc... I'm really glad we went... We had planned to Go to Vasona Park that Day but when the Park Ranger asked us to PAY ADMISSION... I refused...

How and where growing numbers of Americans are taking their own lives. The statistics of self-destruction The suicide rate in rural counties is 78% higher than that in big cities and those people vote Republican.


The Quality of Life and Hope for the Future are declining among Farmers and Factory Workers. Financial Ruin is the Main Factor. After a Farmer loses the Family Farm, the End is Near. Trump's Trade War has Made This Problem Worse.  Closing Factories Cause Despair Deaths. Veterans Suffering from PTSD are also at Risk.

So, is there a solution? Yes. Voting Democrat has been shown to help as Public Officials that are Democrats Fund Help for People. Money Spent on Programs That Benefit Voters is Higher in Locations That Elect Democrats.  Republicans Pass Laws that Benefit the 1%... the Super Rich... 

Taking Student Loans and Graduating from College helps. For Example: People who have a BS Degree in Computer Science are Surviving. https://studentaid.ed.gov/sa/fafsa Working in an Office is a Long Lasting Career... Especially for people over 50 Years Old. Jobs like Fisherman or Logger wear out the bodies of Employees... After Years of Standing on a Fishing Boat, a Man's Knees Fail and He CAN'T work on a Boat... Then he is Out of Work and Unemployable... 

 I got a Desk Job at http://www.mss.ca.gov/ Merit Systems. They Recruit for Government Jobs Working at the Welfare Office. It's Clean, Safe Work. Much Better than Working at a Lumber Mill. I live in Eureka, California a Rural Community... The Main Employers are Fishing and Logging... There are Many Dairy Farmers Also.
