Fusion Reactor: Maybe the Chinese Have Invented Something Wonderful... Maybe Not... Does it produce more electricity than it consumes?

"Nuclear fusion is arguably the best way for human beings to produce energy. In terms of raw materials, the deuterium and tritium required for nuclear fusion are almost inexhaustible in the ocean. Besides, nuclear fusion does not produce any radioactive waste, so it is extremely environmentally friendly." https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/world/china-watch/technology/nuclear-fusion-reactor/

Atomic Power Plant in North Carolina Apparently Safe at this time... "Unusual Event" was just the flooding of roads around the Nuclear Reactor.

What was surprising to me is that there are 5 Nuclear Power Plants in North Carolina. AND they plan to continue operating them for decades to come... Creating Depleted Uranium that will need to be stored safely and guarded for thousands of years... I guess someone didn't get the memo... NO NUKES!

A nuclear power plant just outside of Wilmington, North Carolina declared an "unusual event" Monday after rising floodwaters and storm damage caused limited access to the facility, officials said.

Duke Energy's Brunswick Nuclear Plant – located about 30 miles south of Wilmington – declared the state of emergency, the lowest required by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, after roads surrounding the 1,200-acre complex were impacted by flooding and downed trees.

“None of the roads are passable,” NRC spokesman Joey Ledford told the News & Observer. “The plant is safe. The reactors are in hot stand-by mode 3 shutdown.”

Ledford told Fox News in an email that the twin-reactor nuclear plant is stable and poses no threat to public safety, as floodwaters have not entered the facility or threatened any important equipment.

No safety concerns with North Carolina nuclear plant surrounded by water, regulator says.

On family day, my brother took us to visit Lawrence Livermore Lab. I remember the Shiva Project.

It was a Fusion Nuclear Power Plant Prototype. You may have seen it as the movie "TRON" had a few scenes filmed there. It was a fundamentally valid idea but it never created more power than it took to run the machine. They took a drop of "Heavy" Water and focused many giant laser beams on it from all directions. The idea was that the heat would cause the hydrogen to FUSE into helium. Just like it does in the SUN. When they turned on the power the lights of the city of Livermore would dim. Martin worked in Biology at the Lab.

One time Martin took me to a Biology Trade Show in Washington DC at a big Hotel. A BioTech Company from England had invented a single celled animal that TASTED LIKE CHICKEN. We ate some... It was illegal for a BioTech Company to design and grow food in the USA but the laws allowed it in England. Quite like Zymoveal out of Isaac Asimov's Science Fiction Books. I still believe that it's a good idea. I think it ate oil... Could solve World Hunger.

Hacking of a dozen US Nuclear Power Plants - Business computers only NOT reactor control units. - Could affect delivery of power but not a meltdown to China.

US officials have concluded that hackers working on behalf of a foreign power recently breached at least a dozen US nuclear power sites, Bloomberg reported on Thursday.  They suspect the Russians are doing the hacking... just like they have been doing in Ukraine.

Hackers Are Targeting Nuclear Facilities, Homeland Security Dept. and F.B.I. Say.
In a joint statement with the F.B.I., a spokesman for the Department of Homeland Security said, “There is no indication of a threat to public safety, as any potential impact appears to be limited to administrative and business networks.”
