Adobe Houses are Very Energy Efficient and Quiet. Thick Mud Walls stay Cool in the Summer, Warm in the Winter. AND THEY RESIST FOREST FIRES... Tile Roofs Do Not Burn when a Spark Lands on Them...

When we rebuild Paradise and Santa Rosa, California it might be an Opportunity to Use Smart Design Ideas. I remember going inside the Mission Santa Clara on a Hot Summer Day... Built over 200 years ago, it has withstood Earthquakes.

Adobe Walls and a Tile Roof - RESISTS FOREST FIRES - MEME - gvan42

Solar Powered Street Lights Would Save a LOT of Electricity Currently Being Generated in Coal, Natural Gas and Atomic Power Plants and Distributed Using the Grid. WASTEFUL and DANGEROUS... POWER LINES CAUSE FOREST FIRES.

Nothing NEW Needs to Be Invented... We Ought to Simply Replace the Millions of Old Style Street Lights... With Solar Cells and LED Lamps... The Concept of Generating Power in One Central Location and Distributing it to the User is Quite Wasteful... Some Electricity JUST VANISHES over the Long Distance... and DANGEROUS because the Wires Start Forest Fires... PG&E Power Company Just Burned the Entire Town Of Paradise, CA... and It Caused the Company to Go Bankrupt. Distributing Power From a Central Generator is an Obsolete Idea. What if Every House had Solar Panels on the Roof That Provided Enough Electricity to UNPLUG FROM THE GRID...

Commercial Solar LED Street Lighting: THERE ARE MANY MANUFACTURERS...   HERE IS ONE...

Lighting for Streets and Roadways Provided by Sustainable Solar Power... SEPCO’s solar powered street lighting systems are an efficient means to provide lighting without the need for standard utility power. Every system provides cost savings by eliminating the need to trench standard electric wires for installation and providing no electric bill for the life of the system. Solar street lights have been installed on highways, freeways, neighborhood streets, rural roads, etc. and provide security, sustainability and an overall green image.

It's Wonderful that Columbus discovered America. A Place That People Can Escape To When there is a Disaster in the Old World. In My Own Family, My Great Great Grandmother...

got pregnant while Unmarried. Shocking! a Scandal! So she Left the Busybodies in Holland and moved to New Amsterdam on the Hudson River... and Her Child was Nobody's Business but Her Own. Later the English renamed that city New York. The Dutch people were pretty Tolerant of Everything... If you wanted to have a different God, OK... That's Your Business... If you wanted to Speak a Different Language, OK... If You were a Native American and We were Europeans, OK... Let's see if we Can do Business... Trading, Farming, Hunting, Furs... We were all Just Folks trying to Earn a Living and Raise up our Kids...

People Have Been fleeing Disaster and Coming to America for Centuries. The Ukrainians today. The Afghans, The Irish, The Chinese, Central Americans, Haiti, Vietnamese Boat People, The Hmong... and The Spanish Colonized Mexico and then California, Texas, Colorado, New MEXICO and Arizona.

During the Russian Revolution, The "Reds" Won and the "Whites" had to Get Out of Russia or get Killed... So... Many Fled to America! That's what happened people I Know... They Came to America, Shortened their Name and Built a Business, raised Kids... Truly enjoying the Blessings of Capitalism.

Who were the Reds and Whites in Russian history?
The civil war occurred because after November 1917, many groups had formed that opposed Lenin's Bolsheviks. These groups included monarchists, militarists, and, for a short time, foreign nations. Collectively, they were known as the Whites while the Bolsheviks were known as the Reds.

The Only Real Lines on the Map are Coastlines.

And all of those people that came to America had to pay for their boat ride... The Irish often had to work for Seven Years as an Indentured Servant to Pay off the Debt for the Boat Ride...

as a Matter of Fact, Only Slaves from Africa got a Free Boat Ride and a Guaranteed Job for Life! Who Could Turn Down That Offer? Not Many...
USA Immigration Policy meme
Seems pretty Obviously Racist...

Catholic Church insane meme
I read Obama's Autobiography and He Had a JOB as a Community Organizer in Chicago... REALLY! That's a Job! Someone Paid him Money to Organize a Community! I'd Pay a Man to Fix the Brakes on my Car. I'd Pay a Man to Put a New Roof on my House... But I would NEVER pay a Man to Organize a Community... What IF it Never Got Organized? SO WHAT! So I did some research and The Catholic Church was Paying his Salary... They Help the Poor in Guatemala and Haiti and China... and ALSO The South Side of Chicago!

Finally we have a MAP with Red Lines of Where the Dangerous People Hold their Machine Gun Battles... AVOID GOING THERE! Crazy People! Over 100 Bullets Fired... Six Dead, 18 Wounded...

Machine Gun Martin and His Brother... ARRESTED!
and here's the Photo of the Men Arrested! Didn't they use to play in that band ABBA? or were they in KRAFTWERK? No... They were the Guys that Learned how to Put a Ball in a Basket when they were in School... Instead of Studying Computers or Nursing or Agriculture... This time When they Go to Prison DON'T LET 'EM OUT!

One Might Think That Black Lives Don't Actually Matter After All! Not to These Guys!

Map with Red Lines showing CrazyTown
The Reason I'm Concerned by Machine Gun Battles in Sacramento is... I Live Near There. I might actually GO to the DangerZone®... I'll never travel to Russia or Ukraine... or Afghanistan or DirkaDirkaStan... but I Might Go to Downtown Sacramento... If I'm Called to Serve on Jury Duty the Courthouse is down there in the CrazyTown® - Really! But Here's a MAP with RED LINES to Show Where the MADNESS LIES!

Somehow We Let "Machine Gun" Smiley Martin OUT of Prison Early... Really! There's a Law that just Lets 'em GO... A suspect arrested in connection with last weekend's mass shooting outside bars in Sacramento served less than half his 10-year sentence because of voter-approved changes to state law that lessened the punishment for his felony convictions and provided a chance for earlier release.
Smiley Allen Martin was freed in February after serving time for punching a girlfriend, dragging her from her home by her hair and whipping her with a belt, according to court and prison records.

Proposition 57, the 2016 ballot measure that aimed to give most of the state's felons a chance of earlier release... ---> IN EFFECT, MAKING CRIME LEGAL! <--- Police have said the violence was a shootout between rival gangs in which at least five people fired weapons, including Martin's brother, Dandrae Martin, who also was arrested. No one has yet been charged with homicide in the shooting...

FC SAID: Yes, Baha'u'llah tells us that the earth is but one country and mankind its citizens.
We, as world citizens, need to learn that the strong individualism of the past will need to blend into a world where the group is more important than the individual. But that diversity is still valuable. Can you do it?

I said: Nope, Not Me.

and FC Asked: Rugged Individual?

and I Replied: Nope... I enjoy being wealthy... If I participated in the Bahai concept of sharing the wealth fairly, World Wide... I'd be poor... and I don't want to be poor. I eat every day, Have indoor plumbing, hot water, an air conditioner and a heater with a thermostat, a TV with hundreds of Channels and a Computer with the internet... If We Shared Wealth Fairly... it would be great for natives living in East Ooga-Booga but bad for me. SO... NO THANKS!

I do have a Guru... Sonya Sophia... and I participate in Weekly Group Meditations for Mental and Spiritual Health... I met her at the Rainbow Gathering in Utah 2014... She was Teaching a Seminar... She Is Worthy - some Real Wisdom Here!

Then FC Said: You really seem to have misinterpreted the concepts of wealth and poverty as discussed in Baha'u'llah's teachings. One can still be wealthy, but maybe not to such extremes as our overly privileged 1% have achieved, mostly because they gained their wealth by underpaying their workers, etc. I am, right now, fairly wealthy, enough so that I can give to charities and not worry about next year's income. The Baha'i faith is not the communism that many of its detractors attempt to claim. The faith is also intently spiritual, but suggests that we not become "the playthings of the ignorant" such as those "gurus for cash" we often meet up with. One can be a Baha'i for decades and never shell out a penny for the pleasure. Sure, there is a Baha'i Fund (Often a bit strapped for cash) but no one waves an alms bowl in your face.
If you are happy having the Guru that you have, wonderful. I wonder how many of Baha'u'llah's teachings she's cribbed, many of them do anymore, but the important part is that you feel as if you are participating in carrying forward an ever advancing civilization as well as your own personal spiritual development.
Carry on, but try not to wreak division, that would mean that your Guru is a false prophet.

The "natives of East Ooga-Booga" often feel that they are more wealthy than the materialists of the West. Something to toss into your next bit of meditation.

and I replied: Thanks for taking the time to Question the teachings of your own Guru and ask IF what he says makes any sense at all in 2022... I actually read every word... I still believe that somewhere in the teachings is the concept of Sharing Resources Fairly... NO, I'm not willing to do that. I've had a Hot shower and drinking water in my home my whole life... and I'm not willing to give that up so an Iranian can have a Bicycle... or flush toilets in Iraq... or WhatEVER... Have you ever traveled to the "Third World?" - I Have and it Horrified me... I went to Mexico in 1976 and I'll never go there again... Starving Children and NO Birth Control... They didn't feel Wealthy... they felt Hungry. Because their Religion was Insane... The Irish are the same way... Breeding like Crazy and having Half Starve to Death...

You may be interested in the Science Fiction Stories of Orson Scott Card. He wrote a series of books Starting with Ender's Game... In the later books He explores The Hive Mind of the Bugs... Where the Good of the Group is More Important than the Individual... We See this on Earth with Bees and Ants... "blend into a world where the group is more important than the individual." Beehive thinking...

FC Changed his Tune: I've know Orson personally, he's not a friend. He's actually rather a jerk, and seems to be proud of it. but we frequent many of the same circles. You seem to think that Baha'u'llah is suggesting a hive mind of some sort. Far from it, remember my earlier mention of "diversity"? Unified, but not uniform, working together and using our diversity to make everything better for everybody.
Yes, this is the age when "salvation" is for the collective instead of the individual, but the individual does still matter.
You know, I feel that I can go on like this for hours and you are still only going to hear those things which you wish to hear. So I will leave it here. If you haven't read Baha'u'llah's writings for yourself, please don't try to critique them. There are many volumes of His works, and you are hanging up on merely one of the complex concepts.
So I give you a gift, the chance to be honest with yourself. Visit https://www.bahai.org for an overview. then ask me for other sites, if the one's they present aren't to your satisfaction.

and I Replied: Thanks. I'll read that... and this discussion is taking time away from my work building a Travel Blog... People from all over the World can take a Virtual Journey thru Remote Northern California... Because I went there, Took Pictures and so did Many Other people!

Buying Used Stuff at Thrift Stores DOES NOT CAUSE ECOLOGICAL DAMAGE Like Buying New Stuff Does. When You Buy a New Product, the Corporation Has to Replace It.

They Mine Raw Materials, grow plants (like cotton) using pesticides and herbicides, Log Forests, Employ Slave Laborers in the Orient, Burn Gasoline Shipping the Plastic Crap Here From China... and on and on and on... Used Products ALREADY EXIST and so Buying Stuff at The Eureka Rescue Mission Thrift Shop (my local store) does NOT Harm the Planet. Actually, They Hire Local People to Work as Clerks and Do Delivery. We Bought ALL our Living Room Furniture there. Three Chairs and a Sofa... and Men Delivered It Upstairs in Our Home. NO WAY could I Move those Heavy Objects Up That Staircase... I Tipped those Guys $10 Each... and they were really Thankful. Yes, I Could Have Spent a Fortune at Sears or KMART but... I Prefer to Keep The Money IN MY WALLET. I Like Employing Guys That Live At The Rescue Mission. The Mission Does Good Work Here in Eureka and I've Met a LOT of Real People That They Help. I did buy new Beds at Sears. Somehow, those were just too Personal to Buy Used... also, I Do Not Buy Used Underwear... BUT, Clothes? YES! It's actually fun to find thrift stores in Super Rich Neighborhoods and Live Like the TV Show "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous..." A Great Place to Shop is North Shore Lake Tahoe... Snow Bunnies often Donate Extra Stuff When the Season is Over... and There is Also DUMPSTER DIVING in College Towns at the End of the School Year... FREE STUFF!

Oddly, I Expressed These Opinions during a Group Discussion at an Ecology Class at Humboldt State University and ALL THE OTHER STUDENTS SAID I WAS WRONG... They said that Used Stuff Still Requires Ecological Damage to Exist at All... I tried to explain that the Manufacturing Damage Happened IN THE PAST and it is impossible to Change History but Buying New Stuff CAUSES Purchasing Agents at Corporations to Hire People to Create New Stuff IN THE FUTURE to Fill the Shelves At The Store. No One Grasped the Concept. But I Did Make The Other Students Think. and That's a Good Thing. It's a difficult concept... I Wish I Could Explain it in a Shorter Sentence... Maybe YOU can Re-Write the Concept Better and Post it in the Comments Section... Thanks!

Remember: There are Two Ways to Get Everything You Want. Get More or Want Less. and... You Can Get More Stuff Per Dollar At The Eureka Rescue Mission Thrift Shop... or Your Own Store... Did You Know that There is a Fashion "Thing" where Corporations PRE-RIP Clothes? Intentionally Making Them LOOK USED! Really! They Hire People to Rub Jeans over Rough Surfaces to SIMULATE Wear and Tear of Normal Use... I'm Not Making This UP! All the Pathetic Dupes are Wearing Clothes Like That! On My Own Webstore... I Offer Hats that have been "Distressed" to look like they are Old... It's an Option... I wish I could write a Mocking Slogan Poking Fun at this Fashion Trend... Then I Could Sell a Hat with That Saying... Sort of like the Question: "Can You Imagine a World Without Hypothetical Situations?" or The Page that says: "This Page Is Left Blank Intentionally." A Cosmic Haiku Slogan... I do sell a Hat that says "PRESS" so people can wear it at Protest Marches and Avoid Being Bashed on the Head By The Police... I Do Not Really Know if It REALLY Helps Avoid Police Violence... I Do Know That People Made T-Shirts Saying "Backstage Pass - Shoreline Ampetheater - Bill Graham Productions" and Used them to sneak past Security Guards... I admire the Guy that Made a Sign that Says "This is a Sign." Was That Absurdist Theater or End Times Warning?

"Life is More Complex than a Slogan on a Hat."

SE SAID:

There is too much plastic in the world. Practically everything is packaged in plastic nowadays. Shampoo, conditioner, liquid soap, dish soap, laundry detergent, vinegar, coffee, salad dressing, barbeque sauce, mayonnaise, mustard, hand lotion - these are just a few things I have here in my apartment which are packaged in plastic. Also, bottled water, soft drinks, and juices are bottled in plastic bottles...and of course we also have our plastic storage containers for food and other stuff. Plastic pretty much lasts forever, and it's lightweight and convenient, and those are some of the reasons why it's everywhere. But it's so bad for the environment. It ends up in the landfills where it doesn't degrade. Or worse, it ends up in the ocean. When you consider the fact that nearly everything is packaged in plastic all over the world, and plastic is filling up landfills and ending up in the ocean all over the world, it's really a problem. But I don't know what the solution is. Plastic is so convenient and lightweight, and if you drop it, it won't break, so people aren't going to want to go back to drinking soda out of glass bottles or bringing their lunch to work in a ceramic casserole dish rather than a plastic storage container. I don't know what the answer is.

I Replied: We can Make Plastic Out of Hemp.

Boycott Plastic Garbage! Chicken of the Sea Tuna is Marketing "Infusions" with a Plastic Bowl, Lid and Fork. Trash that will pollute the Earth for 10,000 Years. REFUSE TO BUY PLASTIC CRAP.

I Oppose Small PLASTIC Containers for Single Servings of Food. Since We Already Have the Technology to Make Milk Cartons, WHY NOT use Waxed Paper for Cheese, Coffee, Yogurt and Sliced Ham? https://gvan42.blogspot.com/2019/06/i-oppose-small-plastic-containers-for.html

I keep on seeing TV advertisements for Keurig Coffee that puts ONE CUP Worth of coffee grounds in a little PLASTIC container... Ridiculous! We have been brewing coffee for Hundreds of Years without Little Plastic Cups! You buy a two pound Aluminum Can and scoop a few spoonfuls into your percolator... or your drip coffee machine... using brown paper filters... simple, easy, clean, ecological and NOW, ALL OF A SUDDEN, WE HAVE AN INVENTION THAT CREATES MILLIONS OF LITTLE PLASTIC CUPS!

and Then on Facebook I read This Long Story...
SE SAID: The main issue I have with buying clothes online is that you end up losing money when you have to return stuff, unless it happens to be one of the rare stores that allows free shipping on returns. But unfortunately, most stores make you pay for return shipping. I don't know how many other women have this problem, but for me, I rarely know exactly what size is going to fit me because sizing is all over the place now. Sometimes I fit a 2, and sometimes I fit a 6. Sometimes I fit a small, sometimes a medium, and sometimes a large. I almost never get it right on the first try. If I'm shopping at a brick-and-mortar store, I can take several sizes into a fitting room, try them on, and buy the one that fits...or, if I don't feel like doing that, I can buy them all, try them on at home, and then return the ones that didn't fit, and I don't lose any money in the process because nothing had to be shipped. But when you order online and you aren't sure which size is going to fit, you need to PAY to return the ones that didn't fit, so basically you're paying to try them on! Also, sometimes you love the look of an article of clothing, but after you try it on, you realize that it's unflattering on you, or it just doesn't look as good as you thought it would look, so you decide not to buy it. This process is free when you shop in person, but when you shop online, this process ends up costing money because you paid for the item, tried it on at home, decided you didn't like the way it looked, and now you get to PAY to send it back. If more and more clothing stores continue to disappear, and we are eventually forced to buy everything online, it would be really helpful if ALL clothing retailers would offer free shipping on returns so people can try stuff on without losing money when they return the stuff that doesn't work for them. Otherwise, they'd better allow us to continue to have brick-and-mortar clothing stores where we can try stuff on for free before we buy it.
I'm having this issue right now, as a matter of fact. There's a dress I'm eyeing online, but I've never owned anything in that brand before, so I have no idea if I would fit the 4 or the 6, and it's an expensive dress, so I can't afford to buy 2 of them and pay to return the one that didn't fit, or to find out that it doesn't even look good on me in the first place, so then I have to pay to return it. I'm probably not going to buy it in the first place because it's just too big of a hassle if I can't try it on ahead of time for free.

CF SAID: Have you tried a subscription service? I really liked StitchFit. They set you up with a personal stylist who you can text pictures and things to. (I loved mine; we would just chat randomly and she sort of felt like a friend.) And return shipping is free, and they keep shopping until they've found you looks you'll love!

SE REPLIED: I did try Stitch Fix a few times. I liked the way it worked, but I only kept one of the items they sent me, a blouse which I like a lot. But most of their stuff was either too expensive or just didn't work for me for whatever reason. I think I prefer picking out my own stuff rather than having someone do it for me. It's an interesting concept, though, and I can see how it might work for others.

I Said: I also buy clothes online... Big and Tall refused to tell me what size I wear... They COULD Have Just Looked Up what was Ordered Last Time but NO... It was a Gift and The Giver's Privacy is Top Secret... So I Guessed, Guessed wrong and Simply Gave the Pants to a Guy Who Lives Here... I was too Lazy to Figure Out How to Return the Pants... HOWEVER... Online Shopping DOES HAVE MY SIZE and Most Brick and Mortar Stores Do Not... So It was a Great Step Forward when online Shopping was Invented! The Best Place to Shop is at the Thrift Store... I Love the Eureka Rescue Mission Store... Not only do I Get Great Used Clothes Cheap but I'm Employing Homeless People That Live at the Mission... AND... When You Buy New Clothes the Corporations Automatically Order More New Clothes to be Created... with Slave Labor and Pesticides in the Orient, Dyes That they Dump Right into the River... Diesel Fuel for the Boats to bring them Here from There... an Ecological Disaster... None of that Happens with Thrift Store Clothes... AND... If You Shop in a Rich Neighborhood, The Clothes that are Donated are Super-Duper! North Shore Lake Tahoe is Excellent... All Those Ski Bunnies would Rather Donate their Extra Clothes Than Pack in a Suitcase and Fly Home...

My first Wedding - Part of my Autobiography...

Jo-Ann and I were living in a Duplex in Santa Clara, California and She was working the Graveyard Shift at National Semiconductor Microprocessor Division and I was working at System Industries. I had to close up the house before the wedding because we were not coming back for a week and accidentally cut my arm on a window that I was trying to close. It had a crank that was not functioning well and I just pushed on the pane of glass which broke. I got blood on my WHITE TUXEDO. I had a small scar on my left wrist for years. It was a joke that day - people kidded me about slashing my wrists to commit suicide instead of marrying Jo-Ann. We were married in Mission Santa Clara. The Mission was very cool and dark. As a Student at University of Santa Clara she was allowed to use the Mission for her Wedding. Any religion was allowed... When we met the Minister he asked me the date I was Baptized... I guess that's a common fill in the blank question... and I told him I had never been Baptized as I was an Atheist... He was Shocked! but performed the ceremony anyway. It was July 4th, 1976. The wedding was a BIG Production affair with invitations, registered gifts at Valley Fair Shopping Center - Emporium and Macys, little bags of Almonds in a Hard white sugar Coating, and Bridesmaids in Matching Dresses, Grooms in White Tuxes, Joe Franck was my best man, I wanted Barry Hill but he was Busy at work as a Park Ranger and Couldn't attend. We then rode in an open Model T Ford to a room where there was a Country and Western Band playing for our reception. Then we drove to the Hyatt Regency in San Francisco and had a drink in the revolving restaurant on top. Excellent view of the fireworks in many cities. Berkeley, Oakland, Sausalito... you can see very far... Then we drove to Canada, camped outdoors in a forest of trees with white blossoms. I had a hay fever reaction to that plant and had a stuffed nose. Then we rode the Pacific National Exhibit Roller Coaster. It was really scary and you have to hold on tight to keep your seat. We also rode a Bicycle built for two in Stanley Park... I remember the name of the Park was Lyons Gate... Maybe i was thinking of the Bridge there... Then we stayed in My Mother in Laws Mansion in Pollack Pines near Lake Tahoe. It was under construction and we slept in a walk in closet in sleeping bags. I remember that we drank a lot and I liked going out to the street and lying down to watch the Stars. Elevation 4,000 feet - almost no city lights... and the smell of the sugar pines was strong... There was no danger of getting run over by a car. You could see the lights approaching about five minutes before they got to where we were.

It is fun to write my autobiography... it makes me remember all the events of my life... My first wedding was quite an event! The Bicentennial! July 4th 1976... My brother attended but made sure he told me that he was MISSING a Giant Sailboat Event in New York City... where he lived... and I had to pay him back by attending his Daughter's wedding in a SUIT and SOBER...

R U SYRIA? (The Syrian Civil War): The USA Joined in this VERY COMPLEX battle in 2014 and is still there today, in 2019. There are about NINE (9) different sides all fighting each other.

It was Started in 2011 as part of the Arab Spring Uprising. Supposedly the USA is fighting to defeat ISIS also known as ISIL. It appears that this war will continue until the end of eternity. Two major Combatants are SUNNI and SHIITE sects of the Islamic Religion. They have been fighting since Mohammad Died about 600 AD.

The USA mostly deploys Drone Aircraft to Bomb Targets. Very few Boots on the ground and very few American Casualties.
Trump has ordered the troops home but then decided some should stay...

CLEARLY, This is a Bogus War with no real mission, no USA interest in who wins, and no end in sight.

It is difficult to take this war seriously as it seems to be a sick joke. R U SYRIA? sounds like a bumper sticker slogan... We are fighting for the KURDS... totally ignoring the WHEY...  and of course, ISIS is an ancient Egyptian Goddess... The Wife of Osiris.

Often the USA Ships Weapons to the Middle East and then those weapons "ACCIDENTALLY" end up in Islamic Terrorist's Hands. The entire organization ISIS was enabled by the theft of US Weapons from Local Police who... reasonably... totally lost interest in fighting after the Iraq War Ended... HEY, Why would they care? The Infidels were defeated and they no longer had to pretend to be fighting on the USA side... So they gave trucks to ISIS... and Machine guns too... WHEE!

Great Movie: "The Mark of Zorro" He was a CHAMPION of Los Pobres de la Tierra de Los Angeles... Trump want's to build a WALL to keep the Mexicans Out. ABSURD!

We need a man like ZORRO to help fight against the Evil ones from the Distant Government. In the movie he defended the poor people of the City of the Angeles from wicked Tax Collectors from MADRID, SPAIN. Now the Wicked Tax Collectors are in Washington, DC, USA...

A WALL won't keep the Mexican OUT, they have been here since 1760!

Father Junipero Serra built Missions all along California...
Did you ever notice that the weather is best in the mission district? He chose the best land to build!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jun%C3%ADpero_Serra

California was part of Mexico from 1760 to 1849 when gold was discovered and we became part of the USA. Texas was part of Mexico too. Florida Means Flowery Place in Spanish...

So when Trump wanted to build a wall to keep the Mexicans out, he is 250 years too late...

Most of the cities of California were founded by a Catholic Priest called Junipero Serra. That's why we have Spanish Names... San Jose was named for Saint Joseph... San Francisco was named for Saint Francis of Assisi... The Ciudad de Los Angeles=The City of the Angels... He rode north from Mexico on El Camino Real(the Royal Road) and built a Mission one days ride apart going up the coast... San Diego, Santa Barbara, Santa Cruz, Santa Clara, Monterrey all were Mexican towns originally.

In Texas, El Paso(The pass), Amarillo(yellow) and the Rio Grande(big river) have Spanish names.

It makes a lot more sense to be friends with Mexicans than to build a wall to keep them out.

Hello - Gregory Vanderlaan Says High - gvan42

Fund the Manned Mission to Alpha Centauri. It's Our Destiny.

It's our Destiny... To Colonize Space. We could afford Epic Voyages to the Stars if we simply stopped funding stupid stuff... We ought to be colonizing space, contacting ET and become part of the galaxy wide community... Instead we spend our money arresting people for marijuana... a totally worthless expanse. We fund wars over oil... and who's "invisible friend" is better... Absurd.

Support the Manned Mission to Alpha Centauri
Like a Noah's Ark for Colonizing Space.

It should have the ability to grow its own food and take many seeds to plant at the colony we build for permanent settlement.

Remember to take:
Humans (Women, Men and Children)
Animals... Elephants, Giraffes, Cats and Dogs... Everything except Rats,  Mosquitos and Cockroaches... include Spiders and Ants... could be useful...
Plants... Corn, Trees, Wheat and Marijuana. Bring enough so that the trees can produce oxygen for breathing.
Fish... There be Whales, Captain... Dolphins, Tuna, Trout...
and those brightly colored Tropical Fish... I just like them.
Birds... after all, where would we get bird poop if we forgot to bring birds?

Spare Parts and the ability to build spare parts we forgot to bring...
Satellite Dish communication to the Internet.

The spaceship we build to colonize the stars has to be complete. If we forget to bring coffee plants or pizza... sorry... no delivery service available.

Hospital facilities. Especially important to hire pediatricians to deliver children and help them survive.

Other essential plants. Opium Poppies for chronic pain. Magic Mushrooms for mental health...

The design of the spaceship should include artificial gravity.  Easy to implement as the ship will be accelerating for half the voyage and decelerating for the other half. Assuming that it may take a very long time to get to Alpha Centauri, it would be very healthful for the astronauts to be able to visit a planet if one is found and not have their bones destroyed by lack of gravity. This is especially important for people born in space.

There ought to be research laboratories for creating new life forms. DNA. Genetic Engineering. What if, when we get there a new type of life form is needed to survive the bizarre climate of the new world? Something that breathes methane for example...  Well, unless we are able to change the climate of the new world...
It would be handy to change the lifeforms we bring to be compatible with what we find there. This would be a fine place to experiment with designing better humans... The basic flaw with Genetically Modified Humans is... What if they don't like us? A trend of life is to reproduce your own DNA without concern for all other DNA... What if they decided that there were too many old style humans and reduced the population from 7 billion to 100,000 people. That would help with problems caused by pollution and consumption. If we did our GM far away from here, there would be less opportunity for trouble.

and bring many single celled organisms... if all else fails, life can evolve from that.

Since the journey to Alpha Centauri will take a very long time, keeping the voyagers busy and sane is essential. They could do astronomy as the visibility far away from the sun would be better due to a dark sky. They could also actively try to contact aliens. If there was a ring of bright LED lights all around the spaceship, they could blink on and off in non-random patterns... For Example: a Fibonacci sequence or simply counting up... Any alien that observed such lights might conclude that they were odd and go investigate. The LEDs could broadcast in Visible light, infra-red and ultra-violet so they would be more visible to aliens that have eyes different than ours.

Also: astronauts could be kept busy writing songs, art and books and then beaming the results back to Earth. This will become more difficult as time goes on. The Star Alpha Centauri is 4 light years away... That's a slow internet connection...

What if we visit Kepler-186f, the newly discovered earth-like planet?
Too far away for easy access. 490 light years...
Should we contact any life forms that already live there before bringing in our own DNA? Certainly we don't want to kill them all off by introducing a human style disease... We made that mistake when Europeans colonized America.
