An Alcoholic’s Savior: God, Belladonna or Both?

Even more astounding, he stated that the treatment required “less than five days.” The therapy consisted of an odd mixture of belladonna (deadly nightshade), along with the fluid extracts of xanthoxylum (prickly ash) and hyoscyamus (henbane). “The result is often so dramatic,” Lambert said, “that one hesitates to believe it possible.”

Perhaps the most famous patient was William Griffith Wilson, better known as Bill W., the co-founder of Alcoholics Anonymous.
On the second or third day of his treatment, Mr. Wilson had his now famous spiritual awakening. Earlier that evening, Mr. Thacher had visited and tried to persuade Mr. Wilson to turn himself over to the care of a Christian deity who would liberate him from the ravages of alcohol. Hours later, depressed and delirious, Mr. Wilson cried out: “I’ll do anything! Anything at all! If there be a God, let him show himself!” He then witnessed a blinding light and felt an ecstatic sense of freedom and peace. When Mr. Wilson told Dr. Silkworth about the event, the physician responded: “Something has happened to you I don’t understand. But you had better hang on to it.”
Bill Wilson, Founder of Alcoholics Anonymous was VERY Excited about the use of LSD in treating Alcoholism... Then he had Second Thoughts...
He started AA because of a Psychedelic Experience where he met GOD personally by taking Belladonna and Henbane on a five day guided Trip... He saw a Mystical White Light and was given the Fundamental Idea of AA...in 1935... Then 20 Years Later... He tried LSD and thought it would be really great if everyone met GOD personally...
In 1955, He came to believe that LSD was a way to allow that meeting to happen... Many AA members were having trouble with the step where you needed to believe that a "Higher Power" could restore your Sanity. Especially members that did not believe in God... Bill felt that LSD could introduce people to a Higher Power DIRECTLY...
Sort of like having God's Phone Number, Dialing the Phone and Handing it to the AA member...
Then on second thought... Bill realized that the AA program was working just fine as it was and there was NO NEED TO FIX SOMETHING THAT WAS NOT BROKEN.
Then use of LSD became just another "Outside Issue" that AA had no opinion on... [Tradition 10]
And this turned out to be a wise choice...

In General, Populations that Took LSD Turned Out To Be LESS VIOLENT than Similar Groups... Acidheads are often interested in Art, Music, Poetry, Organic Farming, Love, Peace, Ecology... GEE, What If Everyone Was Like That?
We are Seeing a Movement to Legalize Magic Mushrooms... What About LSD and Peyote? What IF We Legalize Medicinal Psychedelics FIRST and then Recreational Psychedelics Later. The Main Advantage to Legalization is there Would Not Be the FEAR of Getting Arrested as a Setting for Your Trip. I Have Experienced that Tripping WAY OUT IN THE WOODS has a FREEDOM aspect to it. On Occasions where My Friends and I Were the Only People for Miles Around... We were More Relaxed than Tripping in Public.
ANOTHER Massive Advantage is that the Chemical Fabrication of LSD Would be Better Quality. Often, Illegal Chemists Make a Substandard Product OR Sell an Entirely Different Chemical (DOM) and Call it "ACID" - I Have Spoken with People that Took DOM (sometimes called STP) and their Three Day Trip was Frightening and Awful. We Would Certainly Reduce the Number of Trips to the Emergency Room with Quality Control.
