Global stocks were under pressure Thursday, with U.S. stock-index futures pointing to continued selling on the heels of a more than 800-point plunge for the Dow industrials a day earlier.
The broad market rout that extended into Asia came after investors got spooked by rising bond yields and the prospect of U.S. interest rates heading higher.

Exclusive: Zinke linked to real estate deal with Halliburton chairman. In the interior secretary’s hometown, a development brings together the head of the nation’s largest oil-services company and a foundation created by the man who regulates it.

WHITEFISH, Mont. — A foundation established by Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke and headed by his wife is playing a key role in a real-estate deal backed by the chairman of Halliburton, the oil-services giant that stands to benefit from any of the Interior Department’s decisions to open public lands for oil exploration or change standards for drilling.

A group funded by David Lesar, the Halliburton chairman, is planning a large commercial development on a former industrial site near the center of the Zinkes’ hometown of Whitefish, a resort area that has grown increasingly popular with wealthy tourists. The development would include a hotel and retail shops. There also would be a microbrewery — a business first proposed in 2012 by Ryan Zinke and for which he lobbied town officials for half a decade.

Interior IG to scrutinize Zinke’s beer-making plans...

A development backed by Halliburton’s chairman includes a microbrewery similar to one the Interior secretary has long sought.

JoAnn and I made a profit on the Pimmit Hills House in Virginia. It was a "Cape Cod" style home in a subdivision of countless identical homes.

Originally built for WW2 veterans, We bought ours for $70,000. Then we had a wood burning stove installed for $3,000. After living there for a year we sold the place for $83,000 and divided the profit in two. I paid off a car loan I had and moved back into the condo in Oxon Hill Maryland.

I enjoyed the wood burning stove because it was fun to drink wine and make love while looking at the fire. I also went into the woods and chainsawed fallen trees for firewood. On occasion I would get "Seeded" [high] on Heavenly Blue Morning Glory Seeds and go chainsawing. It's a mild psychedelic drug.

I also went to the Fourth of July concert at the Washington Monument while "Seeded". That concert featured the Beach Boys with Jimmy Page and Joan Jet. Over half a million people and then they had fireworks. The fireworks exploded right over the audience and burning explosives hit the ground where I was lying down. It was exciting to pay attention to where the dangerous burning embers were landing and to jump out of the way before I got burned.
