Climate Change Statement: 
“Despite all attempts to deny, conceal, gloss over or relativize the issue, the signs of climate change are here and increasingly evident. No one can ignore the fact that in recent years we have witnessed extreme weather phenomena, frequent periods of unusual heat, drought and other cries of protest,” he wrote.
Climate change will likely only get worse and ignoring it will heighten “the probability of extreme phenomena that are increasingly frequent and intense,” he wrote.

The pope paid particular attention to the disproportionate responsibility of rich countries for climate change.

“If we consider that emissions per individual in the United States are about two times greater than those of individuals living in China, and about seven times greater than the average of the poorest countries, we can state that a broad change in the irresponsible lifestyle connected with the Western model would have a significant long-term impact,” he wrote.

The New "Company Towns" - A Return to Slavery.
On its surface, tech billionaire Elon Musk’s plan to build a town in Texas for workers employed at his companies sounds relatively harmless. According to Architectural Digest (citing the Wall Street Journal), Musk has as many as 6,000 acres near the town of Bastrop, Texas in which SpaceX and Boring Company employees could live and work. The town would be called “Snailbrook,” in reference to the Boring Company’s mascot:
Incorporating his own town would allow Musk to make some of his own regulations and dodge the slowdown effects of bureaucracy… Another benefit of the project would be providing employees with lower-than-market-rate housing. Snailbrook, although not yet an incorporated township, reportedly already has some modular homes, plus a public pool, gym, and outdoor sports area. An advertisement for Boring Co. employees last year touted two- to three-bedroom homes for rent starting at $800 a month, while the median rent in the area is about $2,200 a month, according to the Journal’s report.
It’s important to note that what Musk is planning is simply a company town. And while the tech industry of today is different than the railroad industry of the onset of the industrial revolution, billionaires like Elon Musk and Amazon’s Jeff Bezos are no different than the robber barons of the early 20th century, like the Vanderbilt family and the Rockefellers. And luckily, the solutions to stop today’s robber barons from halting the century of progress workers have made are the same as those of yesteryear.

The Energy Department sent an invitation to oil industry executives Wednesday night to meet next week to discuss high gas prices, an official familiar with the matter tells CNN.

The official said the invitation went out to the same seven oil companies to which President Joe Biden wrote a letter on Tuesday: Marathon Petroleum, Valero Energy, ExxonMobil, Phillips 66, Chevron, BP and Shell.

A closely divided House approved legislation Thursday to crack down on alleged price gouging by oil companies and other energy producers as prices at the pump continue to soar.

A bill backed by House Democrats would give President Joe Biden authority to declare an energy emergency that would make it unlawful to increase gasoline and home energy fuel prices in an “excessive” or exploitative manner. The bill directs the Federal Trade Commission to punish companies that engage in price gouging.

“At a time when people across the country are feeling the pinch at the gas pump, Congress needs to be doing all it can to bring down costs for American families,″ said Rep. Kim Schrier, D-Wash., who co-sponsored the bill.

She called it “infuriating” that spikes in gas prices were “happening at the same time that gas and oil companies are making record profits and taking advantage of international crises to make a profit. This must stop.″

The measure was approved, 217-207. Republicans unanimously opposed the bill, along with four Democrats.

The US government has never defaulted on its debts -- but actions by Senate Republicans are threatening to shatter the nation's financial track record. At the center of the congressional fight is a somewhat obscure bureaucratic mechanism: the debt limit, which is the amount of money the government is legally allowed to borrow. Failing to raise (or suspend) it could lead to dire financial consequences that could impact every part of the US economy.

The Democratic-led House of Representatives narrowly passed a bill along party lines last week to fund the US government through the beginning of December and suspend the debt ceiling until the end of 2022. But Senate Republicans blocked the measure on Monday -- not a single Republican voted in favor -- setting the stage for a clash. The US government could run out of money as soon as Oct. 15, according to an analysis published by the Bipartisan Policy Center.

The stakes are high. If the ceiling isn't raised or suspended, it will almost certainly impact the US economy at a macro level, with experts forecasting interest rates spikes and stock price plunges. But the effects will surely be felt on an individual basis, too, as a government spending freeze would reduce or eliminate funding for vital programs, including food assistance for low-income Americans, Medicare and Social Security, and payouts to retired veterans.

On my Facebook Group of Alumni from The Cats High School (Los Gatos) everyone agreed that he was a LOVED and RESPECTED Teacher... 

 Why would you want to build a wall between the USA and Mexico when Mexicans are nice people? Perhaps Trump was Mugged by Puerto Ricans when he was a Child in Queens? Maybe THAT's why he has so much hatred... I remember the Musical "West Side Story" was about rival Street Gangs... One made up of Polish Kids and the Other was Puerto Rican... A famous song was "Maria" and then they Named a Hurricane "Maria" that wiped out the Island Of Puerto Rico... Trump's FEMA Failed Badly to repair Puerto Rico...  

 One of the Secrets to the Success of Silicon Valley was that corporate leaders hired smart people from all over the world move to San Jose to work in Computers... My Next Door neighbor was from Nicaragua... Who knew that there were Computer Scientists in Nicaragua? IBM did... We also knew a Nazi who came to NASA after WW2...  When I went to work at System Industries in Santa Clara most of the employees were Asian or Hispanic... I had a LOT of Respect for my direct supervisor who was a Harley Davidson Riding Martial Artist... I certainly did what he told me to do... I was afraid of him because he could beat me up... but he never had to because I simply Honored His Wisdom...
