I've posted before about "dingbat" apartment buildings. The one I've been living in for the last 13 years isn't technically a dingbat, but it was built in that same era (early 1960's) using the same flimsy materials as dingbats. As a result, there is constant, never-ending noise, and I can't always tell where it's coming from because of the weird way in which sound travels through these thin walls. I'm on the top floor, so there is no one above me...but when it's the people next door or the people below me, it often sounds as if they're right here in my apartment with me. That's how loud it is. But when it's NOT the people next door or below, it's a mystery where the sound originates from. Today, as I try to sleep off my rebound case of Covid, there is a constant "boom boom boom" coming from somewhere within the building. The "boom boom boom" happens day and night, not continuously, but I'm often awakened in the middle of the night by "boom boom boom" (almost always in threes). It has been really consistent since Labor Day, but sometimes I might go months without hearing it.
I'm convinced that part of the reason I can't shake this Covid is because I can't get any decent rest due to the constant "boom boom boom." If they would just STOP, whoever and wherever they are, I feel like I'd sleep really well. But the boom-boom-boom never stops, not during the day, not during the night, never. So I never really sleep.
I don't recommend dingbat living. I've lived in several actual dingbats in the past. In one, I jokingly called my upstairs neighbor "the mad cougher" because he would cough, and it sounded like he was right there in the room with me. I can remember waking up in the night and worrying that someone was inside my apartment, but then it turned out it was only the mad cougher upstairs. Another dingbat had what I affectionately called "the daily revving of the V-8 engines." But the worst of all is the leaf blowers. Every dingbat has the high-pitched screech of leaf blowers penetrating the paper-thin walls.
I am so done with dingbat living.

In My Humble Opinion the Climate Change Protest at Burning Man was Counter Productive... It had the effect of making protesters appear to be Jackasses... Just like the People that Super Glue themselves to Fine Art Paintings... and those Actions have Motivated Vast numbers of people to become Climate Change Deniers... "Oh, Those People are NUTS! Let's Just Have FUN! Let's Take a Drive... WHEE!" 

I believe that the Main Cause is People Voluntarily Burning Gasoline... and People Voluntarily Flying on Jet Airplanes... and there has been ZERO Success in Getting the Attention of those people... and Getting THEM to Change their Behavior... 

One simple solution would be to convert Empty Office Space into Apartments... That would cut commuting distances... so many people live in the Central Valley and then drive to the Bay Area to go to work...

Growing up in San Francisco during the 1960s placed Denise right in the center of the cultural revolution. Her commitment to social justice and exploratory approach to life led her to adventures in counterculture: to being arrested at UC Berkeley's Sproul Hall protests during the Free Speech Movement, to "getting on the bus” (as "Mary Microgram") with Ken Kesey, the Merry Pranksters and the Grateful Dead; to forming the legendary Ace of Cups—an all-girl band that opened for Jimi Hendrix, The Band, and Janis Joplin; to being one of the seven founding mothers of Island School on Kauai; to studying with Robert Nadeau Shihan, Yogi Bhajan, Bikram Choudhury, Pattabhi Jois, and Paul Grilley and to teaching yoga to Madonna, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Quincy Jones, and Jane Fonda.
Denise lives between Venice Beach and Kauai - playing music, teaching yoga, surfing and continuing to learn, channel inspiration and connect all those around her.

LSD was made Illegal in California on October 6 1966

Thus began the invitation to the Love Pageant Rally on October 6, 1966, the day, fifty years ago to the day, that the first LSD prohibition law was passed in the state of California.
The heads in the Haight did what they do best -- they organized an impromptu party.
Beat influenced poet and underground paper editor Allen Cohen and artist Michael Bowen, both known for their work with the San Francisco Oracle, put out the invitation and the people responded.
Kesey arrived with his bus Furthur and the band of Merry Pranksters.
Bands like Big Brother and the Holding Company and the Grateful Dead performed. In fact, the Grateful Dead did their one and only live performance of Alice D. Millionaire, a song written for Owsley based on a San Francisco Chronicle headline about the band's sound engineer and legendary chemist friend.
"Without confrontation," said Allen Cohen, "we wanted to create a celebration of innocence. We were not guilty of using illegal substances. We were celebrating transcendental consciousness. The beauty of the universe. The beauty of being."
And here it is fifty years later. Marijuana prohibition is waning but LSD is still very much illegal in most of the world.
Intriguingly, October 7-9th, a day after the anniversary of the world's first LSD prohibition law, the state of California will be hosting a rock and roll concert. The musicians who are attending are Paul McCartney of The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, Bob Dylan, Neil Young of Buffalo Springfield and Roger Waters of Pink Floyd.
All six of those headliners were making popular music in October of 1966. All six of those headliners wrote songs that challenged culture and flirted with consciousness expansion. All six of those headliners changed the curve of culture.
This is an art blog that chronicles and promotes my ventures into the psychedelic art scene, but I feel it warrants stating that it is ludicrous that LSD is still illegal despite a complete lack of overdoses attributed to the drug. The mortality rate for LSD is virtually non-existent. People might do something insane on LSD. People might even hurt themselves and die on LSD but LSD "overdose" is non-fatal and essentially non-existent.
Alcohol in large quantities is fatal. Most prescription pills in large quantities are fatal. Nicotine in large quantities is fatal. LSD may radically distort perception, but it is non-fatal.
Fifty years is too long. We venerate our psychedelic pioneers but we still imprison casual users. Art and culture have benefitted far too much from entheogenic drugs. It is time they earn their proper place in the contemporary world.

One often asks oneself what roles planning and chance play in the realization of the most important events in our lives. With respect to a given event, this involves the question, just how much was destiny, how much free will? This question has preoccupied me again and again in relation to one of the most significant and consequential events in my life in relation to the discovery of LSD.

At about the same time [as the invention of LSD] nuclear energy became technically usable and the atomic bomb was developed. In comparison to traditional energy sources and weapons, a new dimension of menace and destruction became accessible. This corresponded to the potency-enhancement realized in the field of psychopharmaka, something like 1:5000 or 1:10,000-fold, comparing mescaline to LSD.

One could make the assumption that this coincidence might not be accidental, but rather was brought on the scene by the "Spirit of the Age." From this perspective the discovery of LSD could hardly be an accident.

One might reflect on a further idea, that LSD might have been predestined by some higher power to arise precisely at the time when the predominance of materialism with all its consequences over the past 100 years was being understood. LSD as an enlightening psychopharmakon along the path to a new, spiritual age!

The conformism of the 1950's was blown away when LSD became widely available. Owsley made the chemical and made it available at Acid Tests with Ken Kesey and the Grateful Dead. He also gave it to the Beatles for their Magical Mystery Tour. The spirit lives on in a yearly camping trip called The Rainbow Gathering. It's like Woodstock but the performers are not paid and I'm in the Band.
